With any home improvement project, the greatest bang for your buck is paint.  Our "toy hauler" trailer transformation is no exception.

If you missed the past two posts on my latest project, here are the links:

Poor Marketing = Great Price! But, This Toy Hauler Needs A Transformation

Toy Hauler Transformation - Day One

old floor

THE FLOOR

The old linoleum floor had to go.  We looked at new linoleum, wood, stick on floor tiles, and indoor/outdoor carpet.

We were not happy with any of the available choices.

Because the bike actually drives into the unit, we were concerned with the floor being too slippery.

We found some great industrial rubber tiles for basements and garages, but it would have cost over $500 and they had to be custom ordered.

We decided to remove the old linoleum and paint the wooden sub floor.  We wanted to use the garage floor paint with colored specks in it that we used in our garage, but it's for concrete and we weren't sure it would work on a wood floor.

We created our own solution....

The garage floor kit sells the colored specks separately, so we got the specks and some exterior deck paint.

The floor is actually two sections:

1.  the trailer floor

2.  the back wall which serves as a ramp when opened.  We used skid resistant paint on the ramp part and regular deck paint on the rest of the floor.

THE WOODWORK

The woodwork in the trailer is the other area where paint (Ben Moore Satin Impervo - Black) made a huge difference, for little money spent.  I also used the paint to update the gold mirror frame.

Lori:  Black is my favorite color!  I had to do something about that "old lady" oak...needed to give it a more sporty feel.  Swanky is good, I'll take swanky...thanks!

Maureen:  My noodle is getting tired, LOL!  We are almost done...WERE almost done...I decided today that I want to paint the walls...making more work for myself is my specialty.  I will do that tomorrow.  We are expecting the bed cushions (getting them covered) hopefully Monday or Tuesday.  The next post should be fun...all the finishing touches.

Ellen:  It looks much nicer in person...the picture isn't doing it justice.  I love the look...there are silver specks and they are my favorite.

Lou:   Thanks, I should have the final installment beginning of the week.

Laura:  I've used that paint many times.  The bench in my foyer, two end tables, an accent table, my daughters bedroom set and my grandsons dressers.  I've used it for stairs too.   Your comment really had me laughing...you are so funny!  I hope Charlie finds a toy hauler of his own....you could help him "stage" it!

I agree.  What a difference that black paint made.  Wowzo!  Good for you for making those changes as the new look is incredible.

What a fun project Sharon...and it looks great! Are you planning some cross-country travel?

Kathy:  I couldn't stand those oak cabinets...I knew I was going to paint them as soon as I saw them.

Cathy:  AWWW, thanks!  Nice new picture, by the way!

Kathy:  Now the inside lives up to the expectations presented by the exterior!

Irene:  That's funny!  Good luck with the showing.

Julie:  Someone may have already moved in....I heard "someone" scratching in the ceiling today. We suspect a little critter may have gotten inside.  Painting the walls has been postponed until hubby can evict the unwanted guest!

Joan:  No cross country in the near future...neither of us has the time.  We will stay fairly local...maybe some long weekends.

I can't believe the difference with the black paint and the grey speckled floor. Wow! It is amazing what a little bit of paint can do. The black cabinets look so much better...classy and updated! You're amazing.

Cindy:  Thanks!  I should have the final installment of this little series sometime next weekend.  We are taking our "maiden" voyage in it tomorrow...not sure where we are going or how long we are staying, but once I get back I will post.

Wow Sharon, looks like the hard work has paid off big time! Toy hauler you say, I say swanky party mobile Woo-Hoo! Did you sand & prime the cabinets? Was it oil based paint.... inquiring minds need to know these things, ok?

Can I have a vote on the outside? Yes yo say? Keep the side and lose the dragon, JMHO  :~)

Looking forward to next installment.....

Cynthia:  We should have lots of fun with it.  Yes, I lightly sanded, no primer...it is oil paint.  We are currently on our maiden voyage...in the middle of the woods...pouring rain, of course!  Yes, we are camping and I'm still checking in to AR...it is a sickness!

Cynthia:  Don't be so sure of that, I can be a real whiner!  Turned out ok though, we hit the outlets today while it rained, and we should have nice weather tomorrow for a bike ride.  It is actually really nice (little cool) at the moment.  Sitting by the fire, water front, relaxing right now...with my laptop, of course!

Wow! What a difference you two have made in your get-away toy. As usual your before and after photos are amazing of what a little paint can do. Love the black cabinets and that floor is really clever - you'll be the envy of the tracks.

Lee & Carol:  I like that "our get-away toy" - nice way to put it.  We'll be the envy of somebody...dragon fans maybe!
