Not MY Idea of the BEST Way to Spend $27M *

By
Property Manager with Gibson Management Group, Ltd.

SOMEONE in the federal government MUST see the FOLLY in spending $27m to CHANGE perfectly spelled street signs in the New York area.  If they are spelled correctly and in good repair, why are they being replaced?

Additionally, the NUMBERED signs are being replaced eventhough there are NO CAPITAL LETTERS in them.

There are a lot of things that just don't seem to make any sense.  Could you imagine if any of us ran our business or budgets that way.

Federal copy editors are demanding this?  Oh my gosh.  What's wrong with changing them when they get . . . old and dirty.

Should be spent on schools.  Then again, from another perspective, that only reflected 2 1/4 hours of Iraqi war funding.  So this country does have a pattern of wasting money.

To the out of touch politicians $27M is chump change, as long as it's taxpayer dollars they're spending!

Tchaka * this is a WASTE of TIME and MONEY and our schools don't need more MONEY, they need LESS unions and more ACCOUNTABILITY by the teachers, staff AND writers of the curriculum.

Of course our schools need more money, many of them lack basics.  While more accountability is needed, that alone does not suddenly provide them with all the tools to prepare them for today's world.

I disagree.  Schools need accountability in personnel and spending.  The US pays more to educate their children than any other country...

You're free to disagree.  I've attended schools with nothing and schools with plenty, and my parents own a school. So I will stick with my assertion.  I believe accountability has slipped since you were in HS (and parents were probably more accountable then too), but to best prepare today's students for the world there is more funding needed in addition to increased accountablity.

I think of how many DETERIORATING schools can be repaired and upgraded with $27m
