Simon says "list more property". Okay. Simon says "post about it to broader audience beyond your hometown." Good. Now can you say blogging? Sure you can. I knew you could. Today is brought you by the letter "R" the hardest working letter in the alphabet and the number one.
Hi Missy. Great analogy with Simon Says. In the end, who you choose to follow, put YOU in charge. YOU are your best mentor.
Hi Missy,
I have noticed loads of former Realtors and Mortgage People who have become Social Gurus! They are now telling me how I should run my business when they are no longer running the same business! I honestly feel I could leave Real Estate and go on to be a Social Guru if I spent my days in that Realm!
It's not just on the Internet either, it's local! I see people (whom I have never heard of) teaching Social Media classes!
I would think that, at the very least, a requirement to teach Social Media would be to be able to be found (easily) on the Internet in some sort of social setting!
Simon Says, in bed? Brings up all sorts of thoughts:)
Missy, Such a good analogy. Simon says: continue following and listening to the Missy's of the real estate world. I will!
Missy:
Before taking advice from any of the so-called coaches there are out there it's best to check on what they in fact have been successful at themselves. Do they actually walk the real estate walk or are they just good at getting agents to part with their money for coaching?
It seems that many people want to sell a system and have no track record of success in real estate. Why would I want to buy THEIR system. ??
I think it's important whose advice you follow; otherwise, where will you wind up?
I loved that Simon game.
Hi Missy! You just won't believe this--go take a look at Lenn's re-blog that brought you to my post this morning; I just commented there! Oddly enough, I've had the same experience with agents who are asking me for business, asking me what I do to procure biz, asking to join the team, etc. who are spending inordinate amounts of time on Twitter, FB, Foursquare, etc. These agents have procured zero business from these platforms and have had no closings, some for over a year! WHY do they continue to roost anywhere that isn't bringing them business? That's just astonishing to me--as much time as I waste trying out the latest and greatest, I still put the focus on the platforms that work for me. I HAVE to Close business at the end of the day--otherwise, no one in my family EATS!
Enjoy your Sunday...
Forgot to mention--I tried for a few days to check out Christa's site in its entirety but, it was extremely slow loading. I would go back hours later to move to another page, just to see the masterpiece. I love the look and feel of the site. Anyway, I just clicked on your link and it's working fine now. Could have been it was in the works before but, WOW, what a beautiful site!
Debe, Jeremy did it, we had some issues this week. But, it fits Christa's personality don't ya think?
You are so right, Missy. Your advice applies to all aspects of life. If blindly following those seemingly most powerful and knowledgeable leaders were the answer, Watergate would still refer to just a hotel. One must always use common sense...and vet the source!
Excellent post!!
Missy.. Leave it to you to come up with this thought. You are a master at what you give to your business. I totally agree with Gray.. We are our BEST mentor.
Missy, I loved playing Simon says. I would take it a step further and say be careful of who you follow in life.
This is a huge problem...I want to redesign my website and it is just darn hard to know who exactly is the right person for that. I have to really differentiate between their ability to talk the sale and the actual work they will do. I think you have to be careful who you follow, who you work with, etc to be sure you are getting the best of the best. Clever post.

Oh, absolutely! I love the site! Is she thrilled with it or what?! I see you're using your QR code--are you tracking this at all? Interesting concept and I'm thinking seriously of adding it to sign toppers for listings.
Take care! OH, are you coming to Charlotte for RainCamp? I think I could probably get the place sold out if I let folks know you're coming! Of course, you'd have to bring your new son-in-law and beautiful daughter too!
Missy...
This is such an important topic. I watched someone learn from another on AR and then turn around and sell that knowledge to their peers in the form of coaching. Needless to say, it left me feeling quite a bit different about the person. All the coaching material came from AR. When the person started their journey on AR they knew next to nothing. One year later, and no RE Sales, this person calls themselves an expert. The question that runs through my head is this: Expert? At what? Selling knowlege that can be found for free right here on AR?
I'm sorry. The whole thing just ticks me off when I think of it. It just isn't right. What makes matters worse, at least for me, is a paper pusher toting themselves as experts. I'm an expert too when it comes to pushing paper :)
TLW...ROAR!
Agreed with TLW above! Rome wasn't built in a day and there are awesome tips here on AR. I would say that it can all be figured out in due time!
Missy - Great points! This is one of the primary reasons I spent so many years following Howard Brinton and his Stars of the Month. I was actually learning from agents who were in the business overcoming the same challenges I was faced with.
Sam Miller
Missy this is so true! There are many that never have been in the trenches but try to come across as experts.
