‘A few strong instincts and a few plain rules suffice us.’ ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Life can be ridiculously complicated, should you let it. I suggest we simplify. I have been on the path doing so for several years now. In hindsight ( I wish I had the vision to always make the right decisions) the economic crisis we have faced as Americans has had little impact on my business as a Montgomery County Realtor because I made a conscious decision to simplify. It has certainly proved to be a wise move in the long view.
One of my favorite humans; Thich Nhat Hanh’s wrote, which I’ve paraphrased as this articles title, is the shortest guide to life you’ll ever require: “Smile, breath, and go slowly.” Should you live your life by this individual's 5 words, you’ll do pretty well.
For those who need a bit more guidance, I’ve distilled the lessons I’ve learned (so far) into a couple of guidelines, or reminders, really. And as usually, these rules are meant to be broken. Life wouldn’t be any enjoyable if they weren’t!
less TV, much more reading
much less shopping, more outdoors
less clutter, more space
less rush, much more slowness
less consuming, much more creating
less junk, more substance
much less busywork, much more purpose
less driving, much more walking
less noise, much more solitude
less focus on the future, more around the present
much less work, much more balance
less worry, more smiles
breathe
take your time
Got it? sweet.
Now go do it.
