How to Create a Real Estate Search Engine Optimized Website that Beats your Competitors

By
Real Estate Technology with Real Estate Technology and Marketing

When it comes to competition online, there's little that beats real estate websites. After all, there aren't that many different ways to say "home for sale."

In addition, if you're a real estate professional using the template websites offered by your company, you're not really getting the full power of SEO behind you. Many real estate companies are making their template websites more SEO friendly, but if your site is a template, by its very nature it's just like many other real estate websites, and to be optimized properly your site should be unique.

Here are some tips on how to beat the competition among real estate websites:

  • Do keyword research into how buyers and sellers in your area search. And then do some more. And more. Drill down as far as you can
  • Make sure you have no broken links on your site
  • Place original title tags on every page and make sure your meta description includes those keywords you researched exhaustively
  • Your site should have, at minimum, five pages of original content with keywords
  • Be sure to name your site's photos with keywords
  • Each page should have links to other pages within your site
  • Submit your site to Best of the Web, Yahoo! Directory, Business.com and other free and paid Web directories
  • Start a blog and post at least three times a week. Write about: DIY home improvement tips, tips on how to sell a home quickly in down market, information about the cities in your sales area, information about the local job market, trends in real estate in your area, etc
  • If you're in an über-competitive real estate market, consider starting a pay-per-click advertising campaign. You can read more about starting a successful PPC advertising campaign in our other blog post here
