A Nature Escape to Merriman Pond, Watertown Ct

By
Real Estate Agent with Mapleridge Realty, CT 203-206-0754 REB.0759001

On the eastern end of Watertown sits the Crestbrook Park complex, known predominately for it's golf course.

Upon first entering the area, the vision scans to Merriman Pond, a 36 acre nature estuary that has been a source of much pleasure for fisherman for many years.

The Town of Watertown Ct allows no motors on the pond, so as to preserve it's natural beauty, and also so as to not disrupt the gentle nature balance that exists here.

In warm weather, row boats, kayaks and canoes can be seen quite often.

Recently, the town and a local scout group have collaborated to cut a nature trail around the lake on it's west bank.

Right along side the boat ramp for Meriman Pond in Watertown Ct is the entrance to the walking trail.

The new sign board contains the details of the aquatic and plant life that can be found there. The trail starts just to it's left.

Using the trail will require proper footwear and long pants are advisable.

Cut outs providing access to the lake dot the trail allowing for an angler to gain access to some of the deep pools along the banks. Be careful as you walk, because you're liable to come across one of natures' creatures back there. Red fox roam these woods, as do raccoons, skunks, deer and there have been occasional black bear sightings.

Look to the opposite bank as you get out there and a beaver lodge sits right on the golf course side of the lake, protected by the shallows and some marshy areas.

As the fall season sets upon us, this will become an ideal place to spend an afternoon communing with nature and enjoying the colors of the leaves on the hardwood trees that line the lake.

This last photo is a scenic view of Merriman Pond just at sunrise. Geese still resting on the pond, waiting for the sun to hit the lake. Still too early for the fishermen to be hitting the waters, and the golfers that pass have something else in mind.

Merriman Pond in Watertown Ct, a great place to pass some time, enjoy a great recreation area owned by the Town of Watertown Ct, and appreciate the gifts of nature that surround us.

Merriman Pond and Crestbrook Park are on Northfield Rd in Watertown Ct.

Congrats on the feature Ed, well done! I can only bet that you spend more time on the golf course side than the Merriman Pond park side. Just a guess!

What a nice place for a walk! One of the things I love about Connecticut is all the parks, lakes, reservoir and tucked-away, green areas for people to enjoy! We used to live in CT and my parents and husband are from CT. (Go, Huskies!) Congratulations on the feature, Ed!

Sheldon, I remember the Magazines form the doctor's office when I was a kid. What young man didn't have an interest in that type of geography back then?

Craig, thanks for stopping, I like that location a lot

Hey Al & Peg, there's a lot going on at that Park, there's the obvious, and the swimming pool for Town residents, Tennis courts, a large picnic pavilion, the walking trails, and oh yes, the golf course.

Thanks Dave, I have to take a run over to your new spot some day soon

Thanks Philip, there's a method to my madness for sure.

Thanks Leesa, it's easy to write about stuff and places we enjoy. They write themselves.

This is what people who explored this country saw and then disappeared into for years and years....Not hard to understand why either. Along the same lines, you have Native Indians that traveled with the seasons soaking this up all year long and giving thanks every day. It is easy to understand their confusion when the white man stated he owned anything......How can one own the rivers, the mountains and the sky...? Good post and thanks Ed

Ed, You captured some spectacular images of your scenic view of Merriman Pond  area and Crestbrook Park. I especially love your second photo. So tranquil and serene. I did not know you loved to walk miles, so do I. I usually will do 2-3 miles a week walking the Blackstone River trail taking Buddy along with me.

Congratulations on your feature,
