I love Wired Magazine, and their August issue is jam-packed with cool tips for everything from making ice cream with dry ice to getting fired properly. In fact, there are probably a month's worth of blogging and life ideas in this issue alone.

One of the most pertinent for this forum, though, are Wired tips for getting ahead in the Blogosphere.

So here goes:

1. Be first.  Don't be late to the conversation. If you have hot news, post it up!

2. Be a smart-ass. "Being a smart-ass will get you further than being smart," says Slashdot founder Rob Malda (Capt. Taco).

3. Clever turn of phrase.  Who invented the term Blogosphere, anyway? Wired is also partial to references to the Simpsons or Idiocracy.(I am thinking there are even better wits here on Active Rain....)

4. Witty Innuendo? Absolutely. Peurility? No. Wired says, "Digg and Slashdot readers fancy themselves more sophisticated than the meatheads who tormented them in high school." (They likely are...:_)

5. Understand the Audience! Active Rain  has a different focus than, say, Slashdot, where you trash a MAC, Linux or Nintendo wii at your own peril. Digg readers, says Wired, don't want to hear attacks on medical marijuana or praise for the Republican party. (You get my drift...)

6. Provide vital information. Offer links to your source. Also, sez Wired, don't be afraid to kick sand in the face of mainstream media..."like how they're always reducing complicated issues to short, bullet-pointed lists."

Uh oh....

How do you get fired properly? I'd love to know, as i just 'fired' a client and think I handled myself pretty well.

Mike: Leave with a big umbrella (with a pointed end?). Write your own letter of reference and have the firing boss sign it. All good stuff....

Pamela: Don't miss it!

Good Morning,

I am going out today and buying this. Then I am going to subscribe to it. Then I am going to read it ( even If I have to send a few less comments out. Then I am going to be filled with wonderful new ideas to blog about. It seems that each month, I hit a time when I am just dried up and looking around for something interesting. By month's end I have read so much, sent so many comments and it all blends together like mush. So I step away, read original things and books and feel inspired again. I need that right now. :-) Thanks for the reminder.

Good stuff.  I will have to go look up "Peurility"   I am not going to be able to do references to the Simpsons and I don't know what "idiocracy" is either.

Maureen: Ditto on Simpsons and Idiocracy. I had to look up the last one, and now wonder if one of the boys might have a copy....

Thanks for the interesting info, I'll need to check out this magazine myself.

Lynda: It's a fun mag for Realtors (like us?) who stay too close to camp.

I mean, I've always wanted to know how to make a glowstick, bribe someone, and get backstage at a concert. Now I know;-)

Roberta - one of my favorite magazines is Fast Company. I've learned a lot from their articles. You can also check them out online at fastcompany.com or their blog at blog.fastcompany.com

Sharon: The fastcompany.com link did not work, but the fastcompany blog is something in which to lose oneself.  See ya! I am off to explore your fine recommendation!

Thanks!!!
