Someone asked me why I chose to be a Realtor? They were also bold enough to ask me if I ever felt bad that lots of people think Realtors aren't very nice people.
Here's what I said: "Well, I guess like other professions that have an image problem in the public eye, the bad apples create the mindset while the great ones labor in relative obscurity."
I went on to say that I'm a Realtor because I want to help people and I really LOVE real estate; the analysis, the negotiation, the art of marketing... but most of all I really enjoy meeting someone new, helping them set realistic goals and creating a plan to help them accomplish those goals. Maybe I even get a friend out of it but at the very least, my customers know I'm passionate about helping them and that I get the job done.
Of all places this actually struck me at the liquor store! I've always wondered why I don't feel like the owner of the local store cares about his customers. I go there enough to be considered a regular customer. Alright I know what you're thinking; I don't go there that much I've just lived in my neighborhood for over 6 years! Anyway, I realized why I feel that way. He doesn't love what he's doing. It's just a business to him. He doesn't really like wine, or fine scotch, or a good lager. It's just a living to him and I get the feeling that when I talk to him he only likes my wallet. I've heard other people in my neighborhood say they can't put their finger on why they don't feel like a valued customer there and I think I figured it out.
So what I'm asking is, "Do you LOVE what you do or is it just a way to get paid?" If you don't love it, why don't you do something else? Wouldn't you be better at something you really love? You're doing yourself and your customers a disservice.
I LOVE what I do! I hope you do too.
