Yesterday I wrote about the Beardsley Zoo, and Jack Mossman commented on the Penguins at the San Diego Zoo. Of course that made me think of penguins here in Connecticut as we are a family that adores penguins (did you know there are 18 different types--our oldest child could recite their names at the age of 4 they were such a favorite!).
Our Zoo does not have a penguin exhibit, but our fabulous aquarium in Mystic, better known as the Mystic Aquarium, certainly does. If your family is anything like mine, you will spend at least half your time watching the penguins and enjoying watching them "fly" through the water.
But be sure you don't miss the cownose rays that you can actually pet in the Ray Touch Pool. It is fun to watch other's reactions when they actually make contact with these gentle creatures.
Another favorite with my family is the Beluga Whale exhibit--the only Beluga Whales in New England! The kids can get up close and personal with the whales by going into the cave and watching them through the large windows.
There are lots of hands on exhibits for all ages and plenty to interest everyone, including teenagers, who has an appreciation for our deep water friends!
For those of you fascinated by the Titanic, be sure you don't overlook Return to the Titanic!
