Every Saturday from mid-June to mid-October, I look forward to the downtown Reno Farmer's Market. All of my favorite vendors are there, the sweet corn guy, the strawberry man, the red grape man and Tim from Amber Oaks with his berries, figs, apples and tomatoes.
The very last downtown Reno Farmer's Market is always my favorite. The folks who come all the way from Hatch, NM with the green chiles and their roaster make it special. Green chiles by the burlap bag are loaded into the roaster and the fire is lit. The aroma is irrestible, people actually stand around just to take it all in.
They have quart bags that are still piping hot of mild, JimBoys (med), hot and the XHOT! We are JimBoy fans and I buy several bags. When I get home I package them in small serving bags, put them through the food seal-a-meal and store them in the chest freezer.
All winter long my husband and I enjoy them in soups, stews, casseroles, eggs, burgers, you name it!
