Bad Houseguests - The tale of a tiny mouse x 2: Part 3 of 3 THE END

The days passed and the memory of the mice began to fade.  Nearly a week and a half later, Joe went to cook dinner.  Due to the enormous heat wave of record high temperatures in July, BBQ season was popular.  Joe hadn't used his stove in over a month!  One evening, when the air became cooler at night, they were ready for something other than BBQ.  Time to throw a pizza in the oven!

Joe turned on the oven to preheat it and left the room to check his email.  He heard the oven alarm go off and as he opened the door to slide the pizza in, a rancid thick cloud of smoke billowed out.  "Kelsey!!!  The oven's on fire, what should I do, just throw water on it!"  That was the best idea she could come up with, so he grabbed a glass full of water and doused the flames inside the oven.  When the smoke cleared, he looked towards the bottom of the oven and could see a mound of some substance between the cracks of the panel along the bottom.

He lifted the panel to find a stack of dog food!  The mice had created a nest in the oven and stolen dog food from the dish!  No wonder Oliver the cocker spaniel was looking a tad thinner.

Disgusted, but thankful he was in the house before the whole oven engulfed in flames, flashbacks of the mice started.  "Those evil little creatures", he thought.

Moral of the story?

1.) Always check the nooks and crannies in your house after rodents have been there.  You never know where they may have made a comfy bed.  The result could have burned down Joe's house, so it's important to check all of those areas where wires lay.

2.) Avoid the "new and improved" traps, go with the good old wooden ones.

3.) And we also wanted to give you all a good laugh to take along the way :)

Love the story!  My approach to rodents (which my daughters surprisingly endorse) is the snake.  They have to eat too...and they love mice.  :)  And they make great show-and-tell pets for the kids at school.

Eeeeeek!  That is enough to make me start looking in all sorts of weird places...  although we don't see too many mice around here.

I have torn apart a range to confirm a little rodent homestead.  I was hoping not to find a home there but they loved the insulation to make their nest and had easy access through the vent.  Life "was" good.

Jason - I don't know about having a snake in my house!!  Although, I agree they do get hungry and can take care of that situation... but what happens when a snake gets loose?  AHHH :) Of course, I can see how that would make for a "best of show" award during Show and Tell!  I miss those days...

Chris - Ugg... I would try and give you some tips on how to lure them out and catch them then, but I haven't any besides setting up traps to catch them, rather than allowing them to get back into the walls and then dying.  Are they causing a ruckus in there?  Funny side story, my parents recently visited a friend in Australia.  In the house, they would here this almighty noise now and then and their friend would just pound the pipe and it would quit.  Well I guess they have an enormous amount of poisonous frogs that crawl into their drain pipes which flow throughout the house and make this noise.  Now that would give me the eebies too!  GOOD LUCK!!

Sandi - you are lucky!  I think mice were the death of about 4 of our cats when we were younger.  We lived out in the country so there were LOADS of field mice.  The cats were always out there hunting at night but never made it across the road... oops.

Kevin - the little buggers cost about $2 in the store but when it comes to replacing a range, I guess their "price" goes up!  Sorry to hear that!!
