Today is October 1st~~~~my daughter’s birthday. Happy Birthday to you and countless more. I remember this day those many years ago when you arrived in this world. You continue to amaze me with the way you balance your family, home and your career. Make sure you take time to “smell the roses” this next year. That is my gift of advice for you. Those precious years with those adorable granddaughters of mine will fly by in an instant.

My husband told me that life is about money and time. My retort was that you cannot buy time. It is that one, very precious commodity, without a price tag. I think we need to fill our hours, minutes and seconds with as much simple pleasure as we possibly can each day. Do not misunderstand me, I am NOT talking about spending money on “things.” For that is just what they are~~”things” that are used up and discarded with yesterday’s trash. I am talking about the joy in the moments of one’s life that take your breath away~~for just an instant time is stopped and peace permeates your soul. I often find such peacefulness in the very early morning hours when the sun is just beginning to yawn itself awake from behind the trees and mountains to the East. With the arrival of Fall, the burnished colors on the tips of the leaves are sun kissed. It is truly breathtaking.

I know that Fall is the gathering season, a time of Harvest. Traditionally, farmers gathered their crops together to ensure that their family would have food for the impending winter season. For me, I think Fall can be a Harvest of Friendship. It is a time to share our time, our lives, and our homes with those that mean the most to us~~family and friends. Our lives would be so empty without these people to brighten our days with their mere presence. We are celebrating a grand occasion with friends we have known for over forty years. It is their 50th Wedding Anniversary and we plan to share a lovely meal spiced with innumerable life-long memories. Congratulations, Brenda and Tom!! Who knew cutting down trees could be such a joyful chore?? Again, some other life long friends joined us for a weekend of tree cutting, good food, good wine, and a wicked game of Mexican Train Dominoes. Thanks, Sherrie and Stuart. And thanks to Val and Ross who joined us for the domino dinner and added to the fun and hilarity of the evening. We are looking forward to celebrating with the family birthday girl in a few short weeks. I have a suspicion that my granddaughters and I will be making the cake for their Mommy.

One other tidbit I would like to share~~”health is wealth.” So very true and I think that should be part of our harvest plan, too. Life is about money and time, but you simply cannot buy time...........health is wealth.......Happy Harvest to all.........................
