The MONKEY'S PAW is one of the best known lessons available to teach us something about life, ourselves, good vs evil and... to what purpose...? It consists of many stories and variations. The premise is to be careful what you ask for and from whom........I will share the concept with you as follows...

The MONKEY'S PAW is a horror story by W.W. Jacobs based on the premise that you can change your God given destiny...but at an enormous price for doing so.....for interfering with your fate and attempting to create a new one......in other words....you disrespect life and challenge it as a God would, then the MONKEY'S PAW will answer you....for a price....

ONE VERSION OF THE MONKEYS PAW

A man who is stranded on an island from a ship wreck. After a while, he finds a well buried box and in it, the MONKEY'S PAW. In small writing it says....speak to the paw , you shall be in awe...3 times given..you will be driven. Instead of finding out what lies in store for him on the island that he arrived to....The man then realizes he has stumbled on magic that will grant him three wishes. He begins the thought process for the first wish..

  1. He picks up the MONKEY'S PAW and says...I want to be the richest man in the world bar none.......instantly he is led to a cave on the island full of treasures without end. Rubies, Pearls, Diamonds, Gold, Emeralds, Coins and Silver. He is elated but quickly brought to reality when he discovers that there is no way to enjoy all this without being off the island and around others...
  2. He then picks up the MONKEY'S PAW...and says...I want to be the richest man in the world around people and off this island......poof instantly he is surrounded by people who are calling him sir and boss. They are in a great underground cavern of the largest diamond mine ever discovered and owned by him. There has been a cave-in and the richest man on the planet is surrounded by people in the dark with no way out...all trapped and doomed to die together. The man pauses and considers what has happened.

He becomes instantly aware that he is dealing with a diabolical power that tricks and confuses the one who it does business with it. He now knows that there is no way he can out wish the MONKEYS PAW and the only way to win is..... not to play......so

 3. After careful consideration and deliberation...He picks up the MONKEY'S PAW and says....I want to be back on the island without having found the MONKEY'S PAW....instantly he is back on the island and with joy, begins to discover his new home.

POINT OF THE POST: there is a way that seems right to person that could lead to his death. It is the way of the short-cut, free of the burdens of character and fair play, the easy road where life's lessons are ignored but life's worldly gains are received, where other people are considered a burden and an obstacle, and where there is a never ending want and lack of satisfaction......A CARROT THAT CAN NEVER BE EATEN OR ACHIEVED, BUT KEEPS YOU WANTING.......no not this way my friend....

YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN AND INVITED TO A VERY SPECIAL GATHERING........life

Do what is fair, right, true, decent, honorable, virtuous, and the rewards that come from this journey will reach the depths of your soul defining your character and transforming you along the way into a creature not of this world, but of a world where truth reigns and.... is supreme. There will be your final destiny if you choose to accept it...Turn away anything that resembles the MONKEY'S PAW....the easy beguiling way, the dishonorable way..the way that leads to......MONKEY'S PAW

richie...i've seen too many short cuts lately in life & still people don't learn.  It's true the grass is always greener on the other side...people forget to take great joy in the ones they cherish & life that is lived...best

Wow.  You brought it home full circle saying..."there is a way that seems right...."  I've been that person many times, who wished for something, and only much later realized what sorrow would have come about had it been granted.  Then what gratefulness envelops me...to realize how providence protects me, even from myself should it be necessary.....

Kathleen...your experience is shared by all because it is all too common. How we learn life's lessons are not as important as learning them.......thanks you

Love that story!  Thanks for sharing.  I can look back over my life and see many times how I am better off not having recieved what I wished for at the time.

Tammy...the trick is to learn to accept what comes into your world and handle that correctly. In that process lies your portion which will satisfy all your needs and wants. Any deviation from that puts us on another plane or dimension in regards to the subject matter. So, you discover ways to up your ante, but lose part of yourself while doing it....doesn't make sense. The story remains one of my favorites and the message is clear....thank you for commenting.....Tammy
