The next two photos are just south of town (along the West Fork road).  It's worth doing a small detour!

If you live in Red Lodge or any other part of the world that is currently experiencing the leaves changing color, make sure to make the most of fall and the fall colors as there are signs like in the above photo taken on October 9, 2010 (if you look at Red Lodge Mountain seen in the background) that point out that some powdery stuff may soon be coming (if not next week, in a month or two) to town and cover everything with white! ,

And one to leave you with... today is Monday you know!  :)

In the remaining posts of this series, we will explore the fall colors in Montana and outside Red Lodge.   Stay tuned... we are headed to Bozeman next!

If it wasn't fall, you would swear the hills were on fire. The only thing missing is the smoke...

Gerry - Trees just don't know how to do those glorious colors around here.  It must be the difference in temperatures.  Those are really amazing photos.  CONGRATULATIONS on having this blog FEATURED in the PHOTOS group!

Paul,

Funny enough, some days we get the smoke effect without the fire.  That usually happens in the morning with cooler temperatures and lots of humidity.  Here a link with a photo to let you know what I mean: Not-So-Wordless Wednesday - The Light Above the Curtain

Hi Gerry - I guess the strawmen are out in full force early in Red Lodge.  Perhaps they are all excited about Canadian Thanksgiving this upcoming weekend.   I tend to see many of them in certain neighbourhoods a bit later in October.  I'm planning to go out and take some photos, if all works well, later this month.

Marc,

Not too many strawmen in Red Lodge at least not yet.  The few that are out here are enjoying the nice and unusually warm weather we had so far in fall.   :)

Carol,

Thank you.  Last year in Red Lodge, it was snow that made a lot of the colors fall.  Fall was not as much fun!  :)

I love the way you captured fall - it's my favorite season and here (North Jersey) the trees are just starting to turn. I try to get out and hike every weekend b/c before you know it the leaves are gone...

Kristine,

It sure is good to make the time to enjoy it and hiking is a great way to observe the changing of the leaf colors up close and very enjoyable in the fall!  :)

I'm working my way backwards on your series Gerry. Now that's what I call a cool looking moose, I wonder how long it took to make that piece of art?

Cynthia,

Going forward, I hope you will also come back to check the future posts of this series.  :)

The moose is made out of juniper wood.  I don't know how long such an interesting piece of 3-dimensional art took to make but I will ask the owner of the Rocky Fork Juniper or his son the next time I run into one of them.   If you want to see some more art with juniper wood, you can check out photos of their elegant handcrafter furniture at http://www.rockyforkjuniper.com/ .
