Motivational Power Quote

Negotiations Is About Results

"If you just set out to be liked,

you would be prepared

to compromise in anything at anytime

and you would achieve nothing."

Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Negotiations is about results

We do not negotiate to liked, we negotiate to arrive at the desired results.

A successful negotiator is prepared for the negotiations and can argue both positions effectively.   They will be able to separate the issues from the people and negotiate the issues to a successful conclusion.

Negotiations are not about winning every point in the negotiations it's about understanding how to successfully compromise and remain focused the on end results of the negotiations. Professional negotiations also is about letting the other person win  small compromises in order to keep the negotiation on track to create a win-win negotiations and successful negotiations.

Negotiations about results and the professional negotiator is prepared  to negotiate to achieve the desired results.

But Lou,

I want to be liked!

Lou, a good reminder for all of us people pleasers. A tough balance, to be sensitive to the needs of others and yet be authentic and true to yourself.

We spend to much of our youth on wanting to be liked.  Then as we get older we realized that isn't the key to happiness or success in life.   Great quote.

Great point Lou, the point of negotiation is to start at a point of disagreement and to reach a point of agreement
