A Foreclosure & A Felony

Reblogger Nevin Williams

It breaks my heart to hear about so many families destroyed over the financial stress caused by our economy.  I wish that there were a solution or a quick fix but there isn't.  Here is another example of regular people lashing out at what they feel is injustice.

Foreclosures always have a story behind them.  The story that I heard on the news this morning made it all the more apparent that these stories not only have heartbreak, but also anger and frustration at the system.  Our banks have failed us.  The number of friends, Foreclosure Debaclefamily and clients that I know who are not getting their loan modifications through the banks is demoralizing.

Today, in what could be the first in Riverside County, a San Diego police officer and his real estate agent wife have been charged with a felony in the trashing of their six bedroom home near Murrieta.  The damage totaled $200,000 from stones smashed off the facade to dye poured on the carpets.  Walls were spray painted black, wiring had been cut and the garage door was missing.  Appliances and fixtures were removed, wiring stripped and trees tossed into the swimming pool.

The neighbors were interviewed and said that the couple had put their "heart and soul" into their home and it was the best in the neighborhood.  A friend of the wife and neighbor said that the couple had done everything that the bank had told them to do including getting rid of car payments, paying off other debt and despite lender promises, their loan modification was still denied and the home went into foreclosure.  When the husband asked to borrow a sledgehammer from the neighbor, the neighbor told a reporter, "I knew it had gone too far".

If convicted, the couple face up to four years in prison and reportedly warrants are out for their arrests.  The bank officials who signed off on tens of thousands of foreclosures without reviewing them legally, will not be prosecuted.

I wish I was allowed to use abusive language on active rain... these banks are the the scum of the universe. In this day and age, the banks are the felons who get away with robbery in broad daylight. I feel awful for these people who lost their home.

Sad story. The courts normally are lenient for situations like this if the offender has no record.

The frustration for some is just too great.  Banks cannot keep dangling a mod infront of people and then take it away.

Hi Nevin,

I have seen that anger and frustration in some families and especially in some of my own family members. Not only are the banks the &^%%$$ that are responsible but also some lawyers who tell them to do something and when they go to the banks it is another story, when they refuse the lawyers terms and refuse to cooperate.

At that point there is no way back. Not only are they losing their home they are also losing faith and hope in a new start. Their family members are out of control and they have to move to different home, school, neighborhood etc.etc.

Sorry but it is really frustrating because emotionally we are affected too. We are really in need of a miracle!

Such a sad story. Unfortunately these folks didn't handle their situation properly and now will have to pay the price for their actions.

There was a post today about respect and that seems to becoming a lost art with dealing between banks and those experiencing difficulties.
