25 Priciest Zip Codes for Homes in US

Managing Real Estate Broker with San Diego Previews Real Estate CA BRE# 01101958

Mailbox and Expensive Zip CodesThere are around 43000 zip codes in this country (it's a number that's always changing) and Forbes recently published their list of the 500 most expensive zips.

I wrote a commentary in LuxuryHomeDigest about these most pricy zips in the country and thought there might be some interest here at Active Rain. It seems most of the top cendendors are located in California (13) or New York (10) with one each in Gibson Island, Maryland and in Alpine, New Jersey.

Was happy to see our local Rancho Santa Fe, which in prior years had topped the list, in 13th place. And San Diego County, ironically, also had 13 of Forbe's 500 zips--topped of course by Rancho Santa Fe.

Here's the compiled list:

1. Duarte, CA 91008 $4,276,462
2. Atherton, CA 94026 $4,010,200
3. Rolling Hills, CA 90274 $3,892,456
4. Alpine, NJ 07620 $3,814.885

7. New York, NY 10065 $3,626,001
8. Belvedere, CA 94920 $3,283,269
9. New York, NY 10012 $3,221,371
10. Santa Barbara, CA 93108 $3,151,220

And no real surprise that these places border the left and right coast. But I am surprised not to see Aspen or Vail on the list.

Roberta - it's always interesting how much this shifts each year. But you tend to see many of the smae communities in the top 1/4 or so year after year.

East Coast, West Coast remain the priciest. Vail and Aspen are ultra-expensive, but also contain lower cost properties that support resort workers (my conjecture).

Hi Roberta,

Interesting list to say the least, as a life-long SoCal resident I'm completely blown away with a few of these. And it was based on residential housing by zips, right?

Woah....our average list price is a little over $200,000.  If we get a house a year sold over $1 million it is unusual.  The value is certainly dependent on location.
