Central Park of Harford County, Maryland

Harford County of Maryland is experiencing rapid growth.

The military's base relocation and closure initiative has brought an influx of people into the county.

Nearly fifty defense contractors have or will be opening offices in the county as a result of the increased activity at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

The hospital in the Havre de Grace area is preparing for the major growth with a new facility.

The county is trying to keep up with infrastructure improvements as can be evidenced with major construction projects at a few heavily traveled junctions.

The mass transit bus system has been upgraded and an increased use of the train terminal is expected.

Home builders are looking for new sites to build in order to accommodate the many new residents.

Central Park?

Meanwhile, County officials are negotiating to obtain a prime piece of real estate in the center of Harford County in the Emmorton region.

In spite of all of the growth, the County does not want to have an overly congested region where there is nowhere to enjoy nature.

The property would be a 116 acre parcel located near the intersection of Rte 24 and Wheel Road.

Ron,

It sounds like a good idea to preserve some land for the community to enjoy.

Karen,

I agree, especially for a county that not too long ago was considered to be mainly rural.

Right in the middle of everything; it sounds like a great location.

Kathryn,

There is nothing wrong with being able to catch some fresh air.

We are still not feeling that much of an impact from BRAC, which is a little surprising ?

Michael,

It could be that so many areas have advertised their regions as viable areas to relocate that no particular area is feeling the impact that much.

I live right near that area and I love the idea of a park, if in fact it is going to be a park, and not a bunch of ball fields.  We have plenty of those in the county already.  I look forward to the outcome of this new venture.  Harford County definately has some exciting things happening right now.  Thanks for sharing!

Sandra,

Indeed, a park, not a ball park would be nice.  There should be no need to turn all of Harford County in to one big suburbia.
