A Unique Shopping Experience at the Greenbrier's Art Colony, Part 8, Christie's Signature Art
At Christie's Signature Art, you will find Michael Christie, an artist in residence, at the Greenbrier's Art Colony. Michael's studio has been at the Greenbrier since 2007. His ability to capture the essence of his subjects offers a gift that is twofold; it sparks an emotional connection to the viewer and is what drives Michael to create. His unguarded perspectives accentuate the spirituality he sees in everyday life. Michael aspires to translate the eloquence of language into the visual poetry of painting. He finds comfort in the solitude that painting allows. "In creating art, I feel both lost and peaceful. The stark contrast of these emotions is one unique to the introspective of an artist."
Michael is a local artist, and his family has called West Virginia home since the 1700s. Michael lives in Lewisburg with his wife Jeanne Christie and their two boys, Jacob and Samuel and their adopted niece, Catie. He comes from a family of artists including his in-laws, June Anderson, sculptress and painter, and Robert Anderson, retired artist and writer who lives on the same property as Michael and Jeanne.
Michael's early exposure to the country gave him an affinity for nature. His raw talent was greatly enhanced by training at the Schuler School of Fine Art and an apprenticeship with Will Wilson, both in Baltimore, Maryland.
For Michael, these opportunities have presented a chance to
identify with a higher purpose in art. "Art always has an element of entertainment or propaganda, but great art's function is to make us aware of the potential of man, of the existence of God," he says.
Michael's studio where he works is located in the back of the gallery.
He also paints on the porch in front of his gallery...Greenbrier guests are welcomed to watch him paint. The day I was at the gallery, Michael was completing a painting on the front porch......
Stop by the Greenbrier's Art Colony and meet Michael Christie in his studio where he works with mixed media bringing canvas to life. You can review Michael's commissions, education, honors, etc. in his bio.
