KISSIMMEE - After months of negotiations between Osceola County officials and several land owners, the construction of a multi-purpose amateur sports complex could start as early as next year in Harmony,
The 81-acre site in northeast Osceola was chosen almost by default late last month. The owner, Harmony Development Company, was the only one vying for the project that would assume most of the cost after the county's initial pledge of $20 million was reduced by almost two thirds.
The final details of the contract between Osceola and Harmony are still being hammered out. But Jim Lentz, founder and chairman of Harmony, said he hopes to sign it within 60 days and begin construction immediately.
"We hope to throw the first ball by the end of 2011," Lentz said.
