It's that Orange Sticker on a Narragansett RI House that gets them Inflamed!

It's that orange sticker on a Narragansett RI house that gets them inflamed!  It's Narragansett RI PierBACK!!  The 1st Circuit Court of Appeals heard the grievance from the University of Rhode Island students versus the Narragansett RI Town Council on 'branding' of unruly, party homes on house front doors with a 10" x 14" neon orange sticker.  I wrote about this lawsuit in April in a post and it finally had it's day in court this week.  A court decision is due in a few months.

Since Narragansett RI homes are rented out during the September to May school year to URI students for housing, the 'down the line' parties continue to grow and negatively impact the long term residents in these neighborhoods.  Narragansett is a great bay and ocean side community with lots to do and enjoy so quality of life is important here.  Neighbors have formed 'walk groups' through their neighborhoods on weekends to do their own policing so they can call the police at any signs of party atmosphere in their backyard.

Branded HomeNow the ACLU has taken up the cause for the URI students believing this branding of orange stickers on party houses is unconstitutional.  Owners are levied a 3 tier fine on the house depending on the number of times of an offense.  However, it's that orange sticker that has the students upset.

So maybe one of the issues is that the students are not renting in the right area...don't be the sore thumb that sticks out if all the houses around you are year round owners...ask the right questions from your realtor!  And perhaps party down a bit might be in order given that your parents are bound to find out!

So in searching for Narragansett RI homes you will want to be sure that you find the right Narragansett RI neighborhood to buy in and a Realtor who does the homework to ensure there are no orange stickers on the Narragansett neighborhood house doors.

Remember the slogan "Not on My house you don't!" - it's that orange sticker on a Narragansett RI house that gets them inflamed and please give me the RI Realtor in the Sparkly Red Shoes a call if you want a Realtor who is in the know.

Good grief, that could really be a pain in the neck!  Tough on the Owner, Renters and Year Rounders!  Oh, yeah, did I mention the real estate agents and property managers?

Yes, TIsh...the student rentals keep the taxes way down because of fewer children in the local school system but they do like to party...it's just that they need to party less ...

I don't really understand the purpose of the orange sticker. Is it supposed to be a public embarrassment? I can understand that it would rile people up. However, it's too bad being responsible is something that can't be enforced without a court case. Love the rights and freedom we have in the US, but sometimes these freedoms conflict with other's. I dislike the "we can do anything we want to" attitude. Maybe the landlords need to write a clause in the lease that says if there are nuisance calls and police visits, the lease will be terminated. Wait 'til the students grow up, buy a house in a neighborhood and get neighbors who distrupt them.

So ya, what's the orange sticker for? I still don't understand. Does it say anything or is it just like a 'flag'?

Either way, bummer for everyone.

Bukka...it's like 3 strikes & you are out here...monetary penalties too...it's definitely discrimination but would you want to live in a party neighbrhood if you had young children?  thanks for stopping by..

So, who issues the stickers? Is it the police or is it the residences walking the neighborhood? This should be an interesting outcome because if the courts rule that it is OK to do this then I see this happening across the nation. I'm surprised that the students are the ones that are upset and not the neighbors to these houses as I'm sure it is their property value that is going down.

Todd..it's the police by order of the Town Council that is allowed to issue them.  The neighbors walk the neighborhoods now & call the police.  I have to tell yoU Narragansett holds its values even in these neighborhoods because of the great beach environment...the outcome will be interesting...will do a follow up.  best
