True Story: I nearly began this post with the lyrics to "The Roof is on Fire" by The Bloodhound Gang...but as I was literally typing it out not giving it a second thought, I realized WHAT I WAS ABOUT TO TYPE! Have you actually LISTENED to that song? So much for a "catchy" blog intro to grab the readers attention, huh?

That's an entirely different blog topic all to itself, which leads me to the subject of THIS blog post:
Fire Prevention Month!
Sounds kinda boring after the whole "The Roof! The Roof! The Roof is on Fire! We don't need no water......" intro that coulda been...
In any case, as a Firefighter's Wife I would be remiss if I did not mention that October was Fire Prevention Month. If you live in McKinney, Texas you can read about events going on this month around town from the monthly McKinney eNewsletter:
"The McKinney Fire Department celebrates Fire Prevention Month in October with educational activities about smoke alarms. The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT), the State Fire Marshal's Office, First Alert and Higginbotham and Associates donated 200 smoke alarms to the MFD, and the alarms are available for McKinney firefighters to install on a request and referral basis, primarily to low-income and senior residents of McKinney.
The following tips will help you make sure smoke alarms are maintained and working properly.
- Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button, and make sure everyone in your home knows their sound.
- If an alarm chirps to warn the battery is low, replace the battery right away.
- Replace all smoke alarms, including alarms that use 10-year batteries and hard-wired alarms, when they are no more than 10 years-old if it does not respond properly when tested.
- Never remove or disable a smoke alarm.
Education activities around McKinney this month include visits from the McTown Klownz to elementary schools in McKinney with their traveling "Night at the Museum Fire & Life Safety Show." The show focuses on key messages including the ABCs of an emergency and smoke alarms save lives. Crews from fire stations are participating in a variety of activities throughout the community and visiting many schools, day care facilities and church groups.
To find out more about Fire Prevention programs and activities or how you could receive a smoke alarm installed in your home, please contact the McKinney Fire Department at 972-547-2850 or visit our website at www.mckinneyfire.org."
