Easy Access to NYS Thruway from Rt. 84, Stewart Airport

Drury Lane, our little, meandering 3 mile road which runs between Route 207 and Route 17K is not so little anymore. Over the last several months, the State Department of Transportation has been working diligently to prepare this road to make easy access to the NYS Thruway from Rt. 84, as well as easier access into Stewart International Airport.

This long planned, and hard fought renovation is nearing completion and the newly relocated Drury Lane was "opened" in early August. "Opened" meaning that one lane is open, with many delays because of continuing construction.

County Road 54, which is commonly called South Drury Lane, no longer runs through to Rt. 207.  It is now a cul-de-sac and ends just short of Charlestown Road.  Unfortunate for the new gas station at that corner which enjoyed significant traffic up until now.

The majority of the "old" Drury Lane is now known as State Route 747 and/or International Boulevard. It is accessed from Rt. 17K at the corner of Stone Castle Road, about 1000 feet from its original intersection with Rt. 17K, and also from Rt. 207, just a stone's throw from Station Road.

I assume the local residents are not very pleased about New York's planned changes for this road.

Hi Derrick:

What makes this even worse is that this specific area has been visited by Eminent Domain twice in the last 20 or so years. First time for land for the airport, and then most recently of course for the changes to this roadway.  Only a few homes are left and unfortunately they will have to deal with what is expected to be massive traffic. They have already been experiencing the joys of major excavation and the dust and delays that accompany it.
