Fall Foliage . . . Mother Nature Paints a Picture!

By
Real Estate Agent with Mapleridge Realty, CT 203-206-0754 REB.0759001

From Long Island Sound to the Canadian border, New England is beginning to show signs of a canvas for Mother Nature to display her extraordinary painting skills.

In Connecticut, the foliage in the Western End of the state always stands out. It's typically the coolest area of the state, and the combination of warm days, cool nights, and the topography created by the hills, sets the stage for brilliant colors.

Litchfield County in Connecticut is the stepping off point for the colors of New England.

Through Litchfield County, along the border of New York lies the path of the original Appalachian Trail, a man-made walking path that runs from Mount Katahdinin Maine's Baxter State Park to Mount Oglethorpe in Georgia.

There are maps available for those that are unfamiliar with the area. Walking through the cut paths of Black Rock State Park in Thomaston Ct, one can get lost with the colors and the different views of the lake.

Traveling up Route 63 through Watertown Ct to Litchfield Ct, the open fields with the mountain backdrops will have many a traveler, stopping to take a photo, or to just take a look. Mother Nature knows her business.

There are many paths through the state that offer similar views. The Town of Barkhamsted, with the heavily forested hillsides surrounding Lake McDonough off of Route 44.

Continuing up Rt 44, will bring you through Winsted and then Norfolk, a continuing climb up the hills of Litchfield County. The Village and Borough of Litchfield is a slight detour, well worth the time. Wander along Route 202 in the center of Litchfield for the most photographed Church in New England, The Congregational Church, along a quaint, yet typical New England green. The 4,000 acre wild-life sanctuary at White Memorial Foundation offers the serene commune with nature and the driving and walking paths are spectacular.

The colors in New England are starting to show, Peak season in Litchfield County is still better than a week away, and Mother Nature is showing that she has all the right colors and is getting ready to paint her latest masterpiece.

If you find the colors, the scenery and the quaintness of the area is someplace you want to stay, I would be most happy to show you available houses for sale in Lower Litchfield County.

Ed, We are at peak in the White mountains of New Hampshire, it does usually coincide with the Columbus Day weekend...enjoy it's all down hill (or in piles on the ground) from here.

Paul, we have many fine agents up here that would help you to find a place to live, or even just to visit on occasion.

Cynthia, 83, I was color distracted.

Marsha, in your area the beachs and your scenery tend to take on a different texture.

Leanne, it's like nature goes all out with the crisp skies, the colors, and then.........

Gordon, the hardship you have to endure, so sad.

Eric, you have some interesting views in that area as well, There are colors on all of those apple trees as well.

Patricia, you're welcome, but you have every bit as pretty up there.

Leslie, didn't know that they had leaves on the trees out there. Thought AZ was cactus.

Cara, you get the desert sunsets on the hills and they are special as well.

Steve, that puts you right around the period of rake and blow so that the snow doesn't make strange shapes on the ground. We'll be there soon enough.

Beautiful pictures, Ed, and I see the colors are pretty muted out your way as well. Looks like the lack of rain has really hampered the bright reds and oranges this year. Even as subtle as the colors are this year, I've never seen an ugly autumn in Connecticut...hopefully the colors will deepen up a bit over the next week or so...

I always like to see the fall pictures from back east. We don't have much of a visual cue to seasonal change in the desert.

Ed, several of our trees have started to turn, but we are still a week or two from hitting our peak around here.  Funny how different parts of the state peak at different times.
