If you are following the long saga of Mark Bellissimo and Glenn Straub you will be happy to know that perhaps their woes are over, for the time being anyways. Glenn Straub agreed to sell his Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club to developer Mark Bellissimo for $25 Million. Hopefully this means their lawsuits against each other are over and done with. There was so much infighting going on people were concerned how all this contention was going to affect the Equestrian events that Wellington is so famous for.
Mark Bellissimo said he is going to make the showgrounds part of a multi-million dollar, 140 acre show facility with varied year round Equestrian events. He wants to make this the " Center of The Equestrian Universe".
Bellissimo and Straub were headed to court next month because Straub would not let Bellissimo close on his option to purchase the Equestrian club. Bellissimo will now be Stadium Jumping's landlord until Jean Mische moves Stadium Jumping to the Wellington Preserve. Bellissimo and Mische were once partners with a vision to make Wellington and the showgrounds the largest Equestrian center in the entire world. But they began to fight also. Mark Bellissimo sued Jean Mische stating that he has a 30 year agreement for Stadium Jumping to stay at their current location. We don't know how that is going to turn out, maybe these two can also make amends and move on for the betterment of Wellington and the Equestrian community here in Wellington Florida.
Bellissimo plans on starting the Littlewood Farm horse show at the showgrounds as early as 2009. This show will have year round events. He will renovate the polo fields and the polo stadium and restart Polo matches there for the Polo seasons. The Polo matches had been going down hill with all this bickering and Glenn Straub has not been taking care of the Stadium and Polo fields. I remember back in the late 90's how fun it was to go and watch the Polo matches. The kids love to watch the game too. It was also great for networking and meeting new people. In the 1980's Prince Charles came to play Polo here. Each year Tommy Lee Jones, the actor from Men In Black, plays Polo here along with many other celebrities and well- known heirs to companies such as Levi.
Wellington will not have any problem hosting more Equestrian events here. In fact, it will be good for the economy here. The Palm Beach County Sports commission says that this will be good for everybody and they are glad to see this finally turning around into a positive program.
