Recently a man was arrested in Lodi for scamming elderly women. This wasn’t an investment, housing and lottery winning scam. This was a simple … “there’s something wrong with your car” scam.
The local police investigators say that the suspect allegedly approached several elderly women after following them home, telling them something was wrong with the cars.
He then offers to help, takes money for “parts” and returns later and pretends to repair the mechanical problem. Police apprehended the suspect after he allegedly took a credit card, when he returned to “fix” the victim’s car.
The police have no idea how many seniors may have been involved. First, if the Samaritan was apparently completing his good deed, there would have been no reason to report anything to the police. Second, the age-old problem seniors who have been bilked, fear of making it known, letting family and friends become aware of their vulnerability.
If you or someone you know may have been taken advantage of, please call your local law enforcement agency. If your are in Lodi, please call Lodi Crime Stoppers: 209-333-6771. Calls may be made as anonymous tips.
