Portsmouth New Hampshire is situated right on the border of New Hampshire and Maine, connecting by bridges to Kittery Maine.  This area is loaded with all kinds of fun, educational, and entertaining things to do, all year long!

NH Maine Bridge

This is one of three bridges that connects the Portsmouth and the Seacoast areas of New Hampshire with the southern part of Maine, into Kittery and Eliot Maine.  Two of the three bridges are draw bridges, as Portsmouth is a working port, and tankers and other large ocean-going vessels have to be able to navigate our port and river, the Piscataqua River, which has the 3rd fastest current in the world, and leads right out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Right on the banks of this great river that divides New Hampshire and Maine in this area is a beautiful park that was given to the City of Portsmouth many years ago, Prescott Park.  It was given to the city by the Prescott sisters, Josie and Mary Prescott, and is so named after them.

The park was to be established and maintained as a public park that was to be open and accessible to all.  This was, back then, a run-down section of Portsmouth, and has since become an incredibly beautiful park.  Many weddings have been held here over time, as well as family gatherings, picnics, etc.  The park encompasses 10 acres in the downtown area, and is simply a wonderful and relaxing place for all to enjoy.

During the summer months, Prescott Park Arts Festival brings in numerous musicians, artists, festivals, plays and more, and has been doing this now for 37 years.  The summer events are multi-cultural, and there's something for everyone to enjoy all summer long.

There are Sunday Brunch Concerts, Saturday Children's Series, music festivals, and all kinds of special events.  They also bring in one main play for each season, and this season, it was the play, "Oliver". Oliver The main play of each season runs all summer long, so there's plenty of time to catch it!

Some of the special events in the Park every year are the Chili Cookoff and
Chowder Festival.  Both events draw HUGE crowds and make for a really fun family day!

If you're ever in Portsmouth New Hampshire, make sure to check out the schedule at Prescott Park and come by to enjoy the festivities going on in this beautiful park!  You're sure to enjoy whatever is going on!  Portsmouth is a fabulous place to visit and it's a WONDERFUL place to live and call HOME!!

Thanks Jay and Monika!  I had fun doing this post, and I really enjoy Prescott Park and all the things that go on there all season long.  They (Prescott Park Arts Festival) also are responsible for our Holiday (Christmas) Parade each year, and they do a great job with that!

Hi Ann, Great blog.

Monika and I just love the seacoast with all the fine restaurants and shops make this city one to visit. One of favorite visits is in the summer when we take our kayaks and put in at witch's creek and paddle around the harbor and take a break at low tide and stop off at one of the nice sandy beaches in the area

Thanks Kristal! I do love living here!  When I do area tours with prospective buyers, I've gotten comments from some of them similar to what you said.  They can tell I really enjoy living here from the way I talk about the area and show them around.

Hey TLW - what a great compliment you've just paid me!!  That means alot to see what you've written, and thank you very much!!

I go to Concord a couple of times each month for meetings - our State Association's offices are there.  And one of my sisters lives in Manchester with her husband and 2 kids.  I'm a bit more partial to Portsmouth and the coastal towns here.  ;-)

If you and BB ever plan a trip up this way, we'll have to get together!  I don't know if you've noticed in my comments on BB's blog I mentioned that I'm originally from Clermont - still have lots of family living in and around Clermont, and I go down to visit several times a year.

Thanks again, TLW!!

Nima - when are you planning a trip here to New Hampshire?  Whare are you planning to visit?

Suzanne - WAY TOO early for snow!  For me, that is!  There is snow up on Mt. Wsshington now, has been for a bit I understand.  When the snow does fall, I'm sure I'll be posting some beautiful winter pics as well.  ;-)

Ann, I hope your house is big enough to accommodate all of us here in AR. You made that sound quite nice and with my frequent flyer miles, I'll be right over to check it out! Good visuals.

ANN

We will be heading out your way in June- what is the one place you shouldn't miss when visiting the Portsmouth area?

Was considering heading up to York's Wild Kingdom with the kids.

Also what are the best local places to eat- not the tourist traps-
