Charles Buell, Seattle, WA, Home Inspector created a contest "Proof that I can blog about anything!"    He said to look under your kitchen or bathroom sink and pick an item to blog about while finding some way to make this object relate to whatever your profession is.

I immediately thought of an item and topic and didn't even have to go look under my kitchen sink!  It was the trash. I have always kept the trash can and its contents under the kitchen sink so it's not out in front of eyesight. The trash gets thrown out EVERY morning on our way out the door without fail (unless there's something that really needs to go out....quick).

***************

It brought to mind all the ‘trash' that I get rid of during the course of each and every day or during a down period:

  1. Stinking Thinking:  We all have those dirty negative thoughts or we wouldn't be human. The trick is to keep those thoughts to myself and ask myself why I'm thinking this way. It usually has to do with me and some other belief or value and why I would be thinking them. There is a lesson here as it could be a good negative ...meaning to stay away from that someone or something lest it hurt my reputation.  Throw out those ‘trashy thoughts' and deal with them on a more reasonable level....like thought process.
  2. Out With the Old and in with the New:  I always research and update as much as possible and this includes my PC. Regardless what others believe I know what works for me. I try something new and if it doesn't suit my needs I can put it aside until such time that I may try it again and possible may work.  Throw out the trash that no longer works for me and substitute it with something new.
  3. Literally Cleaning ‘House':  During a down time or even when it gets to be too much I just have to get the clutter out. I've been working on the old files...scanning and shredding old ones and getting ready for new. I have another three years left to do but I'm doing it! Another thing I do to "clean house" (in other words my home office), is to sort out my files an folders on my pc, weed out old pictures and back up my pc every Saturday morning. Cleaning out the trash whether it's paper or pc files to stay organized.

.......Just know that by "cleaning and taking out the trash" allows this agent to perform in the same manner. Implementing new ideas into my business allows me to pay attention to detail by keeping organized, decluttering the stinking thinking and cleaning out all the trash that may block an open mind.

Andrea: Believe me...I have been around some real negative people in my life. I have to detach lest I 'get that haircut from hanging around the barber shop' :)

Susan: There is no way I let my home office go to the point of no return..and reminding myself of the thinking is no problem....seeing as I do a lot of self talk anyway lol

Valerie: You are so right!  And that is part of the whole throwing away the trash thing. They all connect. Even on my pc. I have much to do to get it where I would like. Outdated files, blurry pictures and so forth.

Ah Sally this is great!  Trash talking girlfriend!  I loved it!  What a great analogy - and good ideas to boot.  I must get busy with this contest.....maybe later today since I'm kind of busy de-trashing my desk!

Hello Sally.  I especially like getting rid of "stinking thinking."  You did a wonderful job of using trash from under the sink to make some excellent points.

Great analogy!  Between the trashy leads, the trashy mindsets we sometimes find ourselves having, and the trashy market sentiment, we need daily reminders that we need to stay on point with what made us successful.  Fun post.  Thanks!

Sally,

I love this post.

There are so many areas in our lives that we need to make sure that the trash gets taken out.

Wonderful analogy.

Sally - who but you would find a way to relate trash talk 'stinking thinking' a new years saying 'out with the old and in with the new' to what one might find under the kitchen sink while 'cleaning house'
