Many of our clients come to us thinking that they are ready to sell their home. They've made the commitment, and maybe even found some homes for sale that they'd like to see. They've worked on the landscaping, cleaned the carpets, and created chore lists for the kids. Many have even tried to price their home by searching for similar homes online. These are all important steps to take however, some sellers fall into two traps: over-decorating and forgetting the garage.
1. Over-decorating
Decorate in moderation. The old rule, less is more, is true. While you may be tempted to make every part of your home stand out, it's best to focus on a few key areas. If you put too much emphasis on the decorations it may distract from the important, valuable features of your home. You also want to make sure that your decorations are consistent with its price and style. You shouldn't fill it with expensive decorations if it's a great first-time home. On the same note, don't try to make it look southwestern if it is a brick home. I actually had a client try to do that once. Keep your decorations consistent with the style.
