Santa Cruz is centrally located to countless amazing places for great day trips, camping, site-seeing and more. One of the highlights of the area is Big Sur. While traveling down Highway 1, drivers awe at the breathtaking scenery of the Pacific Ocean crashing into the 3-mile high cliffs of the Santa Lucia Mountains. Big Sur’s Cone Peak is the tallest coastal mountain in the contiguous United States and can be admired from many vista points along Highway 1. This drive to Big Sur is considered one of the most scenic routes in the U.S. and Big Sur was ranked second among all U.S. destinations in TripAdvisor’s 2008 Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards.
Located within the Big Sur’s boundaries are nine State Parks including Pfeiffer State Park. Filled with a variety of trees including redwoods, willows, maples and alders, the wildlife thrives and is just as diverse. The small community within the park provides visitors with camping and other lodging accommodations along with a small grocery store. During your stay you can embrace the many outdoor adventures like hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, costal access, fishing, swimming, and relaxing in mineral hot springs.
Big Sur is only one of the amazing places Santa Cruz is conveniently located to for extraordinary fun. Check out my blog for other amazing ideas for day trips and for local listings visit my website www.petecullen.com.
