I was on the phone last night for a good hour discussing my upcoming Halloween trip to DC with my son. We were trying to decide where to go and what to do during those 4 days that I will be in town. Perhaps a trip to Mount Vernon, perhaps somebody special will be speaking at a bookstore, maybe going to the Kennedy Center one night for a concert - there is always so much to choose from in DC.

This morning I decided to do it the EASY way, ask my DC area colleagues for ideas!!! I will be flying in on the 28th of this month and flying out on the 1st or 2nd of November. Is there anything fantastic going on or any special restaurant???

Sascha suggested an Ethiopian Restaurant by Georgetown that he goes to and a Lebanese downtown but I would also love to find a good Moroccan Restaurant - any ideas???? I hate to use the yellow pages as you never know if the food is really great unless somebody gives you a recommendation. So all ideas are welcome!!!

And yes, that is Sascha in that photo!

Stay across the river in Alexandria and use the subway to go into DC, less traffic and parking hassle. There is so much to do and see! I was there for a 4th of July celebration a few years ago, it was awesome!

Fred - I have the advantage that my son lives on 16th Street NW, so I don't have to look for a place to stay - I also did the 4th of July a couple of years ago and had a wonderful time!!!!

Barbara-Jo - Stay away from the politicians.  October is a spooky enough month, without running into political types running for re-election:-)

Barbara-Jo, I do not remember the food, my jaw constantly dropped as we visited all the memorials and my favorite place was the Lincoln Memorial, as I stepped up and walked into the room where he sits, I got the chills and tears came to my eyes. That moment will stay with me forever! Enjoy your trip and spending time with your son will be special!

Hi Barbara-Jo,

Of course, if you're doing bookstores, consider Politics & Prose on Connecticut Ave NW. Great locally owned store.

For Moroccan, I'm really liking Souk, in the 1200 block of H St NE in DC.

You didn't ask about Halloween, but Old Town (Alexandria) usually has some great ghost tours.

The weather's been great (okay, it's now Florida), sou you should ave fun.

Claude - my son mentioned Politics & Prose to be too so I will indeed be there. I will also check out Souk while I am there, thanks for that bit of advice. I haven't been up there in a little over two years, so I am really excited about this trip! thanks again!!!
