Morning view of the Atlantic Ocean from a rooftop in Essaouira, Morocco

I spent the day before my sister-in-law's wedding in Essaouira, a fishing town, ancient port, and something of a seaside resort on Morocco's Atlantic coast. It made a nice change from the heat and dust of Marrakesh, in that it was windy, cool, and damp--especially in the morning before the clouds dissipated.

I took this photo from the terrace on the roof of our riad (B & B). I am a complete fan of rooftop terraces now. They are wonderful places to eat breakfast and dinner, or read a book. If I tried to create one at my home in San Antonio, it would need to be covered, though, as they are in Marrakesh. It would catch the breeze, although not as much of a breeze as comes off the Atlantic in Essaouira.

Gorgeous.  I needed a mental break and this hit the spot.  I might just bookmark it to come back to later in the day.  You can almost smell the saltwater.

Robin what a great shot; for sure that will take the stress away in such a relaxed area.

A lot of the coastal homes here have rooftop terraces. It’s always fun to inspect them.

Thanks! I really enjoyed the rooftop terraces at the riads we stayed at in Essaouira and Marrakesh. They are a great place to read and have coffee in the morning sunshine. We also had our dinners on the roof, under a covered awning with tentlike swathes of fabric protecting us from the breeze. It was very romantic.
