Labor Day Weekend has descended upon the city of Palm Springs, along with the heat and some thunderstorms.  Even though Autumn does not arrive until September 22nd, Labor Day Weekend signals the end of summer in the Desert.  For most people, myself included, Labor Day has always been viewed as just another day off.  Labor Day has been a national holiday in the United States for over 100 years, but it was a hard struggle for many people to get the government to recognize the American worker.  To learn more about the origins of Labor Day, you can go to the Dept. of Labor's website.

Whether you play golf, go to the spa for a day of beauty, or spend the day shopping, there are plenty of activities in Palm Springs to keep anyone busy.  Here is a sample of activities that will kick off the fall season in Palm Springs:

9/1-Family Excursion to Mt. San Jacinto State Park-Take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to the top of Mt. San Jacinto to learn about the construction of the Tram, and the flora & fauna of this beautiful state park.  Hosted by the Friends of the Desert Mountains.  Call 760-862-9984 for reservations.

9/6-VillageFest in Downtown Palm Springs- VillageFest is starting its 17th year in Palm Springs.  Every Thursday night at 7pm, Palm Canyon shuts down, and the farmers market & a variety of vendors come to sell their wares.  A fun event with food, drinks, and music.  A must see for everyone!!

9/8 & 9/15-Gallery Talks with Sally Rogers-11am at the Palm Springs Art Museum.  Sally Rogers will be discussing Treasures of the West, a current exhibiton highlighting over 100 works of American Art collected by residents of the Coachella Valley.

9/11-Marine Corps Combat Center Band performs at Sunrise Park from 7-8:30pm, as part of the City of Palm Springs Parks and Recreation Division's Fall Concert in the Park Series and a 9/11 remembrance ceremony.

9/18- Rockit Scientists performs at Sunrise Park from 7-8:30pm, as part of the City of Palm Springs Parks &   Recreation Division's Fall Concert in the Park Series.  Call 760-323-8272 for more information.

9/21- The Palm Canyon Theatre opens the Fall Season with their production of "Annie Get Your Gun"  Performances are at 8pm, and the show continues through October 7th.

9/25-The American Made Band performs at Sunrise Park from 7-8:30pm, as part of the City of Palm Springs Parks & Recreation Division's Fall Concert in the Park Series.  Call 760-323-8272 for more information.

This a just a small portion of the many events happening in Palm Springs.  If you would like more information, please send me an email at harold@lylerealtors.com  Have a happy & safe holiday weekend.  See ya next month for the October events taking place in town.

Harold, these sound like some great events happening in your area for the beginning of the September.  This is a good source of information for Palm Springs residents.

Harold, is it under 110 yet?  Palm Springs is beautiful...when I lived in LA I was a regular visitor for the tennis but during this heat wave you must be feeling a bit like staying indoors.  Hang in there!

Kimberly- Our "season" here in town usually starts in October, but there's a lot going on here in September.  Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great week.

Diane-It was 109 yesterday, but with the humidity, it felt like 115.  I've been here nearly 9 years, so you get use to dealing with the heat.  Staying indoors is the way to go here.
