Sanford NC: Kiwanis Park

Kiwanis Family Park is located between Wicker Street and Carbonton Road just East of US 1 in Sanford. Despite being close to a major highway and downtown, Kiwanis Park is a peaceful place to visit. The park sits on over 45 acres of land and includes several picnic areas, two large fields for playing, several walking trails, a fitness trail, and much more. The main parking area is located off of Wicker Street, but a smaller parking area is also located off of Carbonton Road.

This gazebo is in a quiet area of the park. This is the perfect place to have a picnic or just relax and enjoy some quiet moments.

One of the several trails in the park is a fitness trail. This trail has several stops along the way where you can get in some extra exercise. The total distance of this trail is one mile.

If you are in the mood for more of a relaxing walk, there is also a quiet greenway trail. This trail is just over a half mile. The trees really make you feel as if you are deep in the woods even though you are in the middle of Sanford.

There is also a small playground available for the kids to enjoy.

The main picnic shelter in Kiwanis Park is located next to the playground and main field. You can cook up the burgers and hot dogs while watching the kids run and play.

Rita - what a great post about fun things to do in Sanford! You are such a great resource and wealth of info.

Love the pictures of the park - your blogs about Sanford have convinced me that it's a wonderful place in NC to call home!

What a great post for the local residents of Sanford! I love all the beautiful pictures as THIS POST shows people in advance what they have to look forward to when visiting the Kiwanis Park. Looks like a great place for a birthday party for a child!

I loved this post, this park looks great. I'm a huge fan of parks myself, I try to visit them all over. When my kids were young that was one of our favorite things to do, and the price was always right, budget entertainment.

Sanford is a great town with a lot of history and interesting things to do.

It would be a nice spot for a party. I often see folks using the field for soccer or volleyball games in the evenings.

The road is closed to cars and is just used as a greenway trail and it is quite peacful.

Kiwanis park is free so the price is right! I went just after an afternoon shower and there were still lots of folks in the park. I had to try hard to get photos without people in them - I like to give them some privacy.

I'll have to get some more pictures when the leaves change. Much of the park is in a floodplain - they can't build houses on the land but it is great for a park.
