Table Settings by Atlanta Home Stager, Kathy Nielsen

As a professional home stager in Atlanta, one of the most frequently asked questions I get asked by home owners who are preparing their home for the market is how to dress up their table. Whether it's the eat-in table, dining room, or counter-top in the kitchen, a few additions can truly help set your home apart from the others on the market.

Here are some quick tips for setting a table:

  • Select a centerpiece - Color and scale are important so be selective.
  • Plate settings - Not every table needs to be set to the nines. For example, if you've set the dining room table, then use a centerpiece only for the kitchen eat-in.
  • Keep it simple - With staging, we want to reduce the amount of visual clutter.
Here are a few examples (see slide show). Stay tuned as my next post will center on coffee tables and end tables.

Very pretty table settings, Kathy. I don't remember ever seeing the one with the gifts on the plates. Great idea for holiday decorating.

Kathy ~ what beautiful photos of your perfectly-staged tables.  You should teach a class on how to make your tables look gorgeous -- oh wait, I think you just did!  :-)

Kathy, I love your tablescapes.  One is more beautiful than the next.  Dressing tables is one of my favorite aspects of design.  I love working with orchids and oversized pieces as well.  Stunning!

Thanks, Cathy. I'm glad you're feeling inspired (smile).

Michelle - the table setting with the gifts was for a vacant home I had staged last December. I knew it wouldn't stay on the market long which is why I went the gifts on the plates. Sure enough, it was under contract in a week.

Maureen - Too funny!  I love staging tables and hope it shows.

Geri - Me too.  Orchids are my very favorite.

Kathy:  Michelle and I agree - the table with the gifts is very catchy.  I had to go back to check and see if they were gifts or candle holders.  Wow.  Good creative selections to show us.  Thank you.

Always a treat to see your staging!  Sometimes I have OCD when accessorizing and I have to remind myself that less is more.  Even though I preach it to my occupied home clients!  Your pictures are a perfect example of keeping it simple to show the space and not the stuff in it.  :)

Hi Kathy,

You do a beautiful job. I especially love your "uncluttered, less is more approach."  It is what I teach to all of our global clients and I think yields much greater results.

Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Kathy,

I'm trying to get caught up on previous posts. Thank you for sharing your photos. You have wonderful inventory! Do you purchase your florals wholesale? If so, would you mind sharing your source?

Again, well done!
