CALLER: Hi, is this the Stop & Shop in West Caldwell?
ME: Excuse Me. (I was caught totally by surprise by the question)
CALLER: Is this the Stop & Shop in West Caldwell? I got your number off the internet for the Stop & Shop.
ME: No, I'm sorry its not the Stop & Shop but I am a real estate agent in the West Caldwell area. I recently wrote a few posts about the West Caldwell Stop & Shop so you probably came across one of those posts.
CALLER: Huh? I'm looking for Stop & Shop not a real estate agent. Can you connect me to Stop & Shop?
ME: No I understand. This isn't Stop & Shop, you must've come across my telephone number in your search for Stop & Shop in West Caldwell. The Stop & Shop in West Caldwell is not open yet and I do not have their telephone number.
CALLER: Click.
ME: Repeat the story to my 7 and 5 year old who happened to me sitting next to me when the phone rang, they were both hysterically laughing. They even called my husband at work to tell him the story.
What did I learn from all this experience? I learned that:
- blogging hyper-local does make the phone ring;
- consumers can and will find you by googling things other than real estate, like the West Caldwell Stop & Shop;
- I should make it my business to get the number for the new West Caldwell Stop & Shop; and
- It wasn't half as funny as my two little ones thought it was! LOL!!
The West Caldwell Stop & Shop located at 875 Bloomfield Avenue in West Caldwell, the old home of the King of Kings Supermarket is scheduled to open on Friday, October 22, 2010. To kick off their grand opening and give back to the community, the West Caldwell Stop & Shop will sponsor the Jefferson Elementary School Tricky Tray which is scheduled for October 20, 2010.
