BUDDHA TEMPLE IN KAMAKURA
Hello my fellow 'rainers'! I'm in Japan for 10 days and loving the country! I am staying in Tokyo which feels a lot like Manhattan to me....well except for the language barrier!
I am learning a lot about Japanese design while here and will be filling you in on what I learn. The Japanese are a very respectful and peace-filled society. Tokyo has more than 12 million inhabitants and yet the city is immaculate! There is hardly a trash can to be found in this city because disposing of trash is a major problem. You would think that the lack of trash cans would work against a city of this size and population, but the Japanese take it in their stride and simply take their trash with them until they can find a proper way to dispose of it. There is no eating on the streets either and people talk in low tones, so the only noise that you hear is normal urban and traffic noises.
Today we traveled by train to the 'countryside' in order to visit some well-known temples. The temple that you see in the photo above is actually one that is made in the image of Buddha and you can go inside of it. I was warned that it can get a bit claustrophobic in there, so I just enjoyed the scenery from the outside!
Here are some other photos from today's visit to the various temples and small villages that we walked through en route to each (by the way, when have you ever seen a train station with planters placed between the rails?!):
HI, VAL- you're missed back here! Great photos- ten words.
