Black Hardwood – Shaw’s Cosmopolitan Maple – A stylish look for your home in Westchester NY

Have you ever seen black hardwood? Yes, black – not dark or ebony – I mean black – it’s painted black. It is so cool looking – verBlack hardwood Shaw Cosmopolitan Maple in Westchester NYy modern (and retro at the same time). Well Shaw has come out with a new hardwood called Cosmopolitan.

Shaw’s Cosmopolitan maplle hardwood is a high quality engineered maple hardwood. The planks are wide – 5” each. It comes in both black and white – and it’s a special type of finish (which I think is a trade secret) which looks painted – so it’s pure black or pure white. Of course it has 7 coats of polyurethane on top for extra scratch protection (and a 25 yr warranty). This hardwood has a distressed look which is exactly what my customers are looking for. (And, BTW, this floor can be refinished at least twice so it’s going to last a long time).

This is a designers dream. It is so unique to have a floor like this. Not only is it stunning, and allows you to truly do a black and white them e in the room, but you also have options where you can mix and match to make patterns. For example, you could do a blawhite hardwood shaw cosmopolitan maple in westchester NYck floor on a diagonal, surrounded by a white border, surrounded by a foot or so of black for an outer border. Or, you could integrate black and white for a striping effect – either every other board (as you see in some restaurants now) or paired up in twos or any pattern you want – the possibilities are endless.

I’m so lucky because my customers from Saturday are going to be doing this in 2 rooms of their townhouse (later, they are going to add to master bedroom) and they will add black/white checkerboard vinyl to the Pink room. I can’t wait to see the finished product and show you pictures. Not only will the floor be stunning, but the paint colors they have on the walls which are bright and retro are going to look so neat. 2 rooms have white walls – so Black + white theme; one room has red – so red + black and Pink room will be Pink + black/white. It is so retro.

I TOTALLY love the idea of black hardwood with a distressed look...that is right up my alley!  I hope to see this catch on.

Classy. I like the red stain version too with the grain showing.

What a great product -- not sure I would have ever thought of using this, but must say I like what I see.

Debbie, I love the way you help people see the possibilities by describing how the product can be used. That is so helpful! I like the black floor...love that it has 7 coats of polyurethane, and can be refinished twice! Wow! We have hardwood throughout our house (circa 1840). Really need to find someone knowledgeable to have floors refinished. If you know anyone in MA I'd welcome the recommendation.

I love the idea of a distressed look in a black floor.  It sounds really striking, it could have a variety of looks depending on how you do the rest of the room.

Tish - Yes, I think it's going to be really neat.  I can't wait to get some picts.

Nina - Thank you so much.  That is really nice.  A friend of mine from Floor Coverings International works in Watertown, MA.  I'll try to see now close that is to you.

Ruthmarie - Exactly.  This is the type of wood that can be used in many ways.  I can't wait to see it in this home.

Valerie - Thx.  Oh, and yes, dark floors are not always the best with pets - they will often show the scratches a bit sooner and sometimes their fur (depends on the color of the fur).  BTW, I have had customers who have purposely selected carpet color based on their pet's fur.  I think this both cute and smart.

Interesting, but I am one of those staid purists who thinks that wood should look like the beautiful, natural wood that it is!  Floors, furniture, cabinets!  You name it...  but that is me!

Debbie I don't know if I've ever seen black hardwood.  I'd like to see it on a floor.  Have you got a picture you can post?

Jay - Yes, this is definitely not your style. It works for some places and some people, but not everyone.

Charita - It's very new, and this is the first one we are doing.  I can't wait to have the after pictures on this one.
