5 Comments on Raccoons in the Attic In Northern Virginia-Keeping the Masked Bandits at Bay
Good stuff. I know Judy well. I would agree with her. It's definitely something that we nee to examine going into the winter months.
Cindy, We had one get into our laundry room once...shredded the drywall around the door trying to get out! Quite the surprise the next morning for us!
CIndy, no raccoons, but we did have squirrels and they were just as difficult to get rid of. Using professionals only temporarily releives the problem. We needed to trim back all the trees. Making sure all openings are grated or fenced is critical as well.
My dog killed a raccoon a few years ago and it ended up being positive for rabies. I had to get shots for two weeks from having been exposed and the dog had to be quarantined. Raccoons can be dangerous in more ways than one.
Raccoons are the most intelligent animal around - they are smarter than dogs if you check. We had a pet raccoon when I was growing up and he was wonderful but got into everything!
