40 Comments on Some Interesting and Eye Opening Facts About Technology in the Classroom.
Craig, what can I say? The mind is a TERRIBLE thing to waste...
Christ I kept scrolling and scrolling waiting for your head to pop out somewhere and nothin - LOL
I though these stats were pretty fascinating. Just using computers and understanding how they work (just the basics) are really completely different things.
Computers and connectivity are important, but I'm old school. Being able to form a sentence that is grammatically correct and read a book or map is essential.
Some of these facts are rather startling Craig...............technology is great if it's used properly.
Craig
Interesting facts and figures; I was actually taken back by some of them. My how time has changed since we were younger.
Richard - Those conflicting figures had me scratching my head as well.
Gloria - Not good at all. And I too love the tree octopus!
Andrea - Completely irreverent, but here is The Meaning of Life
Rene` - My kid is in 10th grade now and she uses the computer all the time for all her homework. And, she's an honor student. Go figure!
Cynthia - I think computers should be used in computer classes, but other than that, I think the interaction should be between teachers and students, not machines and students.
Don - You're so right Don.
Irene - I agree! See my comment to Cynthis just above.
Steve - You nailed it with this line: Information is one thing. How to use it wisely is another.
Pat - I'd like to see this study for other countries as well. It would be nice to know how we stack up.
Steve - Ditto my kid Steve. But we are the exception to the rule apparently.
Ed - The Facebook revelation and the emoticon thing left me speechless.
James - Wanna buy a bridge James?!!!
Debra - I was a little disillusioned by some of the numbers as well Debra.
Wanda - Social media just makes you more social! Well except for AR which definitely makes you a more well rounded Real Estate pro.
Larry - Progress is wonderful. But, like you said, having the tools doesn't mean knowing how to use them.
Endre - Anyone thinking what they see on the Internet is "Gospel Truth" is sadly setting themselves to fail in the long run.
Dorie - Austin and the Raleigh area are very similar in that regard. With the Research Triangle Park, home to a lot of tech companies, we too are a well wired school system.
Charles - I'm really enjoying the points of view being expressed here. I was hoping that this post would spur on some interaction.
Nick - And I thought I was cutting edge when I purchased my kerosene powered record player!
First Priority Financial NC - Fortunately our schools here in the Raleigh area are doing much better than many others around the country.
Michael - A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste
Bill - Just another disappointing visit to my blog eh, Bill?!!!
Gabe - You make a great point here Gabe. I remember when I was in school, my first computer class was all theory and book related. We didn't evn touch a computer until the 2nd half of the year.
Laura - I'm with you on that one Laura. Strong command of the English language will be a much better launching pad for our kids than having a cool farm on Facebook!
Roger - Exactly what you said Roger! Used properly technology is a wonderful thing.
Tom - It's so different now from when I was in school too, Tom.
I'm not surprised by the use of technology in the classrooms, these kids have to be well trained for the upcoming world they are to work in. I can only imagine how many of the items they are learning on now will be obsolete in a few short years. I tell my kids though, the one thing that will never be obsolete in human to human connection! When two souls touch in anyway, it is glorious!
Craig, No matter the situation it pays to know some trivia (as in this clip) along with knowing how to operate a computer and a cell phone and.....
Gloria
Christine - You're right on the money with what you're telling your kids Christine. There is no substitute for human interaction.
Gloria - OK, ANYTHING the crazies behind the Monty Python empire does is pure genius. The Holy Grail and Life of Brian are two of the funniest movies ever made.
Craig, did they have kerosene that far back?
Nick - Well, the wheel was still square at the time, and dinosaurs ruled the Earth. But kerosene powered record players were all the rage!
This a very goo website
Jairus - Agreed. They always have some really interesting things on it.
Paul - Great point Paul. If we don't keep up with today's technology, we might as well consider a new line of work.
i think every schools in every societies need computers for all of the students N i think this small steps helps to have big progresses.
