I noticed a few posts in which people ask other Realtors how they stay organized in this business which can get quite overwhelming at times.
I read a book written by the cosmetic guru Mary Kay titled: You can have it all!
She is talking about how she manages to have family, business and her faith running smoothly.
One of the suggestions she made is the best organizing tool for me and I recommend it to everybody.
It provides great structure which is the most important component to stay organized. Here it is:
Every NIGHT, BEFORE going to sleep, you think about all the things that need to be done THE NEXT DAY and you write it down in hourly schedule format and veeeeeery detailed:
To demonstrate what I mean, here is my list for today which I wrote down last night:
6 - 6:30: Have coffee, listen to News, check BB and emails, get cleaned up for the day, put on make up
6:30 - 7: Walk Simba and Teddy, feed and brush them
7 - 8: Blog about a new restaurant in South Beach, FL. Read and comment on at least 5 posts
8 - 9: Attend to emails and make phone calls
9 - 10: Preview and take pix of unit #542 in the Roney Palace for client in Canada
11 - 12: Work on pix, send them to client and follow up with phone call
12 - 1: Cook and eat lunch
1 - 3: Take S&T for a walk and give out business cards to potential clients (my way of prospecting)
3 - 4: Go to the office, talk to broker and print out info about the Apogee in South Beach, FL
4- 5: Make more phone calls, attened to emails. Schedule inspection for Friday, 2pm with Anker Insp.
5 - 6: Check for expired listings, contact owner and set appointments
6-....play with S&T and enjoy my eve
So, what I am getting at is the detailed structure of a day and one has to really stick to this time frame. One must NOT give into distrations, which is often times the culprit for a caotic life.
If one important thing couldn't be done that day, it has to be on the list for tomorrows day and given proirity.
Often times I was totally overwhelmed by my work load but after using this system, I am amazed how much easier it has become to stay on track. It takes some self discipline to do this EVERY NIGHT, but it has changed my life...so, thanks Mary KAY!!!
