WordPress in Plain English... posts

 Hi guys and welcome back to the WordPress in Plain English series. If you're new to WordPress or if you're just joining us, you should read the first few tutorials in this series to catch up before reading this section.

 In the previous tutorial we looked at how to create categories (topics) for your WordPress blog. Today we're going to...

- create a sample post

- add some content

- decided whether to allow comments on the post

- add some tags (keywords)

- and then save it as a draft or publish it

 Are you ready? To create your first post, login to your admin panel, open the posts section on the left and click Add New

 You'll see something like the image below which is the main posting area along with all the icons you'll need to upload images, add text, links, etc...

  If you've never used WordPress before I'd advise you to spend some time getting familiar with all the features by placing your mouse cursor over each icon in the post panel to see a brief description of what it does and then click on each icon to try out the features for yourself. Doing is really the best way to learn.

 Once you've done that, you should create a sample post by adding a TITLE, upload a test image, add some text and then a link or two like you see in my little demo post below...

 Once you've done that, look near the bottom of the post panel. You'll see the option to allow or disable comments. This is where you can turn comments on or off on a post by post basis...

 Then, on the right side of the post panel you can select which category (or categories) the post will appear in...

  Also on the right side of the post panel, you can add Tags (keywords) to your post...

 And then using the publish section of the post panel you can either save your post with Save Draft or you can select Publish to have your post appear live on your blog...

 I recommend that you save your post as a draft and before you publish, you should preview your post to make sure it looks exactly the way you want. You can go back and make any necessary changes or edits...
