Mystery dinner theaters are fun, and interactive. There are lots of them here in St Petersburg and the rest of Pinellas County, Florida. The cast meanders through the dining tables, sometimes interacting with each other, and sometimes having fun with the guests. Here in the St. Petersburg area there are more "roving troupes" than fixed locations. Many of the yacht clubs and country clubs will have a periodic Mystery Dinner; some of the theater groups have catered dinners with mysteries; even some of the yachts have luncheon or dinner cruises with mysteries.

Last night we took our family (those who live locally) to The Poison Lounge, which was held at the St Petersburg Yacht Club. During the first act we discovered who was the victim. Carmine, the villainous, lecherous landlord, fell dead on the floor not a foot from our table - though we thought he was poisoned, a knife was in his back, surrounded by an enlarging pool of blood.

Our family ranged from 10 years old to 75, and we all enjoyed it, and all participated. We could bribe the actors between the scenes with Monopoly money to try and get clues. Matthew, my grandson, was even more eager - he added real money as well - and he managed to circulate to hear what the actors were telling the other tables as well. We put in our ballots, and two of us guessed the killer - though we had him loving the wrong girl. The biggest surprise was to learn that dapper Frankie and the dead slovenly Carmine were played by the same actor!

St Pete has lots of theater - mystery theaters, dinner theaters, several local theaters from small to medium size, Broadway shows, musicals, street theater, performances in the parks. It's just one part of the ART that's in the downtown St Pete QuARTer.

Sharon - I love mystery dinner theaters!  The interaction is a hoot! I really enjoy taking people who have never been to one and watch how they react. I'll be you all had a blast!

Linda - During the event my daughter, Tami, was reminding me of the most fun mystery dinner we ever attended. It was at a CyberProfessionals conference in Annapolis. It turned out that our one long table was the only one - the performance was just for us. I think we gave them as much fun as they gave us - it was really a hoot.
