Oak Hardwood Flooring Video in Westchester NY and Stamford CT.

Oak Flooring is the most common type of hardwood used in flooring in the United States and it's a very popular choice for homes in Westchester NY.  As you'll see from the video, oak comes in a variety of colors and styles.  Oak can be light or stained dark or a cherry tone or anywhere in between.

Oak has strong graining (see video) and due to this strong graining it's more pet friendly than some of the other hardwoods because it helps hide the scratches and dents when they occur.  Oak hardwood can be traditional or you can get it in more of a distressed or rustic look.  Take a looksie.

I saw some oak wide plank vinyl flooring that was from Home Depot today  that was surprisingly real and striking looking.

Cheryl - Yes, Luxury vinyl plank has come a long way.  However, be very careful w/ Home Depot's Allure product from Traffic Master.  It looks great and it's cheap. However, they launched the product too soon and there are MANY installation issues.  The adhesive isn't good, so after a month or two, the ends start coming up.

If you're going to use luxury vinyl plank, use Armstrong's Luxe line instead.  It's MUCH better!

Barbara - The prices on unfinished red oak and white oak are constantly changing. They are commodity products and change based on supply and demand.  Lately, the prices have been changing weekly.  Sometimes red oak is more; sometimes white oak is more; sometimes the red oak will be higher on one size and white oak higher on the other size.  It doesn't always make sense.

Usually stair treads are red oak, so all things being equal, if there are steps, I usually prefer red oak to white oak so it can match the steps.

THere is nothing quite like oak floors.  They are so classic and warm and frankly they can be done in so many ways - one could never call them boring.  Loved the video.

I did our flooring in wider white oak.  Not only is it beautiful, but it doesn't show scratches so much as the dark woods and doesn't change much due to sunlight.

Jay - Yes, that's right - lighter woods don't show the scratches as much (I'll have to do a post on that) and yes, wider planks are the way to go.
