Way to GO BLUE

By

Since childhood, back in the days when  Jamie Morris and current Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh were suiting up for the Michigan Wolverines, I was sucked in despite living in the 'burbs of Chicago. Became a fan and have stayed that way for the next couple of decades, albeit not as rabid since I went to a different learning institution of higher education.

Today, something utterly shocking occured. Michigan lost its season opener to Appalachain St. 34-32!!??!!

I know, I know- my wife asked it too...where's Appalachain State? It's a I-AA school in North Carolina- they're pretty good at football, winning the last two I-AA National Championships ......but to defeat a Big Ten team, let alone one ranked #5 in the country is beyond hopes and prayers. Big schools shcedule these teams as laughers- warm up ames, really!

Well, congrats to APP State...they are the first I-AA team to EVER defeat a ranked division one school (yup...I said ever---long time for football, I know). 109,000 people at The Big House never sounded so quiet!

Not sure whose souls are headed to this guy ------> But it does make for a fantastic David vs. Goliath tale

Jim great pics for a humorous visual. Sorry your team lost to a lesser division school. I know how bad it hurts, I am a dodger fan, and at this moment they are getting whooped by the Padres.

Rob- not quite the same....the Fathers are the best team in that division.....now if you're losing to the Pirates (or my beloved White Sox)- that's another story!

I feel your pain.  It is hard to lose a game like that.

I was disappointed. But as long as it wasn't Ohio State, I don't feel so bad. GO BLUE!

Leon- you wouldn't rather lose to a perennial powerhouse than a school that's not even in the same division? The Wolverines drop to Ohio State- eh, stinky but not ludicris......no one has EVER dropped a game like this!! This is all-time big.

Jim, I'm not a huge college football fan, but I always check out the headlines to see what my states teams are doing.  The headlines this morning were HUGE!   (It is a wonderful Samson & Goliath type tale)  Normally when I am out and about on a Sunday afternoon I tune into the sports talk shows to listen to talk about my Tigers.  Today I don't think they'll be talking about baseball.

Shane- wouldn't it be GREEEEEAAAAT if they won the Big 10 and went to a BCS game despite losing to App. St.?

Maybe we could get some good playoff talk started again.

Just as an update to this one....App. St. just put the finishing touches on their third consecutive national title- one of which they earn and defend via a playoff every season! Still doesn't give a Big 10 team, that's supposed to contend for its own BCS title heading into the season, excuses.....but I'm guessing they could beat many bowl division schools on any given day.
