Everything seems to be on the table right now: chaos, direction, uptick, downturn, fear, enthusiasm, deflation, inflation, desire to go forward, reluctance to change the status quo...usually a pot on the boil with this kind of mish-mash signals "shift".

Ah...but what kind of shift! Seems that the "argument" between deflation vs inflation remains cloudy.

A credit crunch is still visible in secondary home/discretionary areas.

Currency concerns remain at the forefront.

How best to capture a "safe haven", both physically and economically? There's the real question!

We often hear the adage "those who don't pay attention to history are doomed to repeat it". Perhaps there are messages that history could send to us, but not immediate past...if we looked at societies in the 14th Century, right after the spread of Gutenberg's amazing technological revolution, the printing press, we might see whispers of direction for our equally changed post-internet world.

I think it was in the 1970s that noted historian, Barbara Tuchman, wrote a book about this turbulent era...maybe worth searching it out, downloading it onto your e-reader, and checking out her premises.

I only have to walk over to my library shelf and pick out the book. A "clairvoyant" writer, indeed, as she published this book pre-internet.

In change lies opportunity.

If you're feeling "stuck", though, it doesn't hurt to drop into a historical era of dramatic shift, to see if there are any footprints we might pay attention to.

Isn't that the other old adage? "Nothing new under the sun"?

I think I like the one attributed to Buddha: "fall down 7 times, get up 8". Now there's a mantra for a time without a roadmap!

And your thoughts are? Always welcome!
