This is in response to the Blog about Anything challenge. We were supposed to pick something under the sink.
One thing under ALL my home's sinks is disinfecting wipes.
My husband and sons (now grown but still visiting a lot, especially at mealtimes) bring in a lot of germs. You know- germs? Those things crawling all over us and everything? The ones you can't see or feel, but you know they are there? Have I creeped you out yet?
Actually, most germs don't really hurt us, they just ARE. Having some germs around is actually beneficial. But too many, or a few very nasty kinds, can make us very sick indeed.
So we use the disinfecting wipes. Take one out and wipe away. Die, you germs!
I see NEGATIVITY as a type of "germ". A little of it can actually be beneficial, or at least not harmful. A little negativity is probably a good thing. It keeps us from being unbearable Pollyannas. It also keeps us from being gullible patsies. But as with germs, too many or the wrong type can make us very sick.
There's an old song that goes "Keep on the sunny side", and it's good advice. I'm no Pollyanna- I'm pretty much a born cynic. I like people, I really do, but I don't expect a lot from them so I'm not often disappointed. But under the cynicism I firmly believe that life is good, that people always have choices, that things can always get better. One of my favorite quotes if "if you don't like your life, make better choices".
That belief is my "disinfecting wipe" for life, and I spread it around a lot. I wipe down my home, my office Prest Realty, my family, the people who come into my office. I try to, if not wipe out, at least cut down on the negativity around me. I do this for my sake- too much negativity leaves me feeling sick if I'm around it too long. I do it for other people- sometimes it helps, sometimes not. Some people LIKE being sick.
Would you rather be a disinfecting wipe
or a germ?
Photo is under my sink (taken by me), I made germ graphic on Photoshop, and sunflowers is my bl & wh drawing which I colorized long ago.
