The Outer Banks is going Blue Green

One of the newest non-profit organizations to come to the Outer Banks is Blue Green Outer Banks. Their purpose is for community awareness and participation in moving toward a greener, healthier environment by rethinking waste.  The Outer Banks is a unique area that can set themselves apart by becoming advocates of rethinking how they can improve the environment while at the same time utilizing and supporting local talent.

Partnered with the arts community Blue Green Outer Banks is trying to fill the local gift shops with unique gifts created from recycled products such as crushed glass (available free from their local recycling center), and the use local experts instead of contracting vendors outside of the state.  Every $1.00 a local retailer makes on the Outer Banks re-circulates locally throughout the community 7 times (spend local, think local).  Blue Green Outer Banks will be “green certified” and develop a Green Certification program for Outer Banks homeowners and rental cottages.
