It’s another quiet Sunday morning here in the small-sized waterfront city of Belleville, Ontario.
The little breezes are catching my blind as they find their way through my opened window and the children in the area where I live are making their way outside as they begin another sunny day of freedom, doing what children do.
A lawnmower hums in the distance and the church bells ring out across the city as they call their worshippers for Sunday service.
Crow has made his early morning rounds and is now taking his break high up in a tall Oak on the corner of Victoria and Foster. Although I heard him calling, I missed his morning message due to being wrapped up in telephone conversations with a client and then my Mother. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with honesty, though, since the universe found another way to reach me with this message a little bit later. That's usually how it is with messages.
I was reading the latest blogs from my subscribed list, and then from the random list of blogs on the main blog page, when a title caught my eye. ~ "I WALKED AWAY, WOULD YOU HAVE DONE THE SAME?"
It was written by Gary Rocks of Franklin , NJ and it dealt with honesty.
Gary was wondering if he had done the right thing by walking away from a listing when he knew it was in the best interests of the owner. It's a very touching post written by an honest man and if you haven't already done so, I recommend you read it.
I replied to Gary with a link to a poem my Father had given my brothers and I when we were in our early twenties. He had told us, when he gave us each a copy, that if we paid attention to the wisdom the poem was imparting, we would do well in life and would arrive to our final days with no regrets.
Here is the link for those of you who have never read it before:
The Guy in the Glass by Dale Wimbrow .
I did some searching on the reason Dale Wimbrow had written this poem and found out that it was an entry to a contest that was held by American Magazine in 1934. The contest was held to answer a young man's letter to the editor wondering why 'an ambitious young man should be honest'. The contest elicited thousands of responses from the readers of American Magazine.
I’m not sure if he won or not, however he did something much greater by writing this poem; he reached out to millions of people over the next 73 years and helped them to not only find their way in life, but also to know that they were doing the right thing in any situation that may arise, by being honest. This is one of those poems that will live in the hearts of all who read it and will cross their minds whenever they are faced with an important decision of any kind.
As I write this now, I think it all comes back to the question ‘What would love do?’.
What would love do; something I always ask myself when faced with any important fork in my path, and I know that what ‘love’ would do, is the honest and right thing to do.
I know this because of my ability to look in the mirror and see the ‘guy in the glass’ and realize that it has everything to do with my conscience and my conscience is my inner connection to the intelligent and compassionate centre of the universe, 'love' itself.
I have been considering for a number of days now that I would like to hold a contest for the Inspiration group (if you aren't a member already, I hope you'll join!).
Many subjects have come to mind, however none seemed quite the right one. So I waited; waited for that inner voice from the universe to speak to me and give me the right subject for the first contest of the Inspiration group. That subject came this morning and I’m sure by now you already know what it is~
Honesty, and What it Means to You.
Your entry can be written about anything, as long as the main theme of the post is to do with being honest and what it means to you or what it meant to you during a particular episode in your life.
For example, the content of Gary Rock's post , which I linked above, would qualify. In addition, it may relate to your business OR personal life . (Please make sure to read the Inspiration Group's post submission guidelines in the sidebar at the Inspiration Group so that your entry also abides by those guidelines.)
This contest will run for three weeks beginning today and ending at midnight EDT on September 24th. All entries posted to the Inspiration group during that time period with the words ‘honesty’ or 'honest' in the tags section, will be entered into the contest and added to the master list of entries which will be in the Featured posts section of the Inspiration group. Each entry must not have been posted anywhere on ActiveRain prior to the a
nnouncement of this contest.
The first place winner will win a special prize package which will include 400 ActiveRain points and a signed copy of Bill Cherry's book 'Galveston Memories' !!
Many of you may already be fans of Bill's wonderful blog here at ActiveRain and if you haven't already, subscribing to Bill's blog will be a special treat for you in days to come.
Bill was born on Galveston Island in 1940 and is a true BOI (born on the island). His book kept my rapt attention from beginning to end as he regaled the reader (me) with stories of the memorable characters and celebrities who lived on Galveston Island. My favourite sections are the wonderful and heart warming 'love' story collection and the collections on 'humour' and 'history'.
Yes, I'm a true romantic at heart and many of these stories brought a tear to my eye or a warm smile to my face as I read late into the night.
Some nights I'm sure they heard me laughing three blocks away as I read about the shenanigans of some of the character's in Bill's stories. I know you'll love this book and cherish it as much as I do.
Second Place winner will receive an extra 200 ActiveRain points.
Third Place winner will receive and extra 100 ActiveRain points.
As well, the top 6 winning entries (first , second, third and 3 honourable mentions) will all receive a copy of Julia Cameron's
Inspirations: Meditations from The Artist's Way.
Your entry can be in the ‘public’ or 'members only' category. The entries will serve to help not only the members of ActiveRain, but if they are in the 'public' category, they will have a far and wide reach around the globe (and help ActiveRain's google juice as well as your own).
Bill Cherry, Dan Forbes and Carole Provenzale have kindly agreed to offer their services as judges for this contest. .
If there are any questions at all, feel free to email me directly or ask in the comments section of this post.
Keep tuned to this post for ongoing updates and may your muse be with you !!
