When is the last time your past clients heard from you? Do they even know if you are still in this crazy and difficult real estate business? Chances are that if you aren't mailing to them or doing something to stay in touch, they will forget you! Maybe they think you "threw in the towel" like so many agents have/did as the market became more and more difficult.
Now if your agent is your mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, cousin, son, daughter or any other person that you are in REGULAR contact with on a personal basis chances are they MIGHT remember. But...that is a big MIGHT!
Unless you CONSTANTLY remind people that you are looking for new real estate business, open to real estate business, want new real estate business, and want them to refer you to their friends and family. They won't necessarily think of you when they have needs for "real estate related services".
I am sure there have been times in your career when someone you knew used another real estate agent to handle their transaction simply because they didn't think of you first. It happens all the time and it is usually one of two reasons:
- Many have a policy not to work with friends and family, I get that, but it doesn't mean they might not refer you out.
- They just didn't know you were in the business, active in the business or wanted new business.
